Re: New Commit
Ryan Clanton ended up a 4 star in short order after being evaluated, which evaluation came primarily because he committed to UO..it is too early in the process to worry about deep backup plans in effect. They guys that declare mid-January forward thru signing day and no one has ever heard of, are worth calling potential "scout team"/fallback option role players. No way UO does not really like this guy to be accepting a mid December commit.

Re: New Commit
The kid was 6-1 180 last year?!
Now 6'6 265, no wonder he is under the radar.

Oregon sent Remington a letter when he was a sophomore and only 6-1 and 180 pounds. Now he's 6-6 and 240 pounds and coming off a season in which he produced 14 sacks, two blocked punts and an interception.
Recruiters, however, still weren't offering visits.
"I got letters from Arizona, ASU, Northern Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State, (Nevada-Las Vegas), Boise State, Idaho and Washington State," Remington said. "I used to get calls on my cellphone every Saturday or Sunday. I went to an Oregon camp, and I got an award for being the best linemen there. But all of a sudden before (this) season, everyone stopped calling.
"I messed up with my grades my sophomore year and I think that's what happened. I'm probably going to end up going to junior college for one year, then go to a (NCAA Division I) school. I know I can play at the D-I level."

Re: New Commit
6'1/180 as a HS sophomore... He is a JC now (Entered in 2007), apparently with 3 to play 2. 4 years older.
Autzen Stadium... Where great teams go to die...Hard!

Re: New Commit
Thanks WK, I didn't see where it said HS. Still a lot to grow from HS to college, but not nearly as big of a David Robinson like growth spurt

2. how can it count as his RS when he wasn't enrolled? you can't lose a RS year at d-1 school while enrolled at a JC. i'm pretty sure that if you sign a scholie in december and enroll in january, it counts towards the previous year's class. if you sign in december and enroll the following fall school year, it counts towards the current class.

Re: New Commit
He was recruited in the 2007 cycle and used his redshirt year in JUCO, a la Williams. Oregonlive has the story now and I've seen some definitive reports say he is a 2 for 2 guy that counts against 2009. They expect this kid to come in and provide immediate depth. I don't know why people think DT automatically. We lose Tukuafu and there is a need for a big end. We have Rowe, Turner, Anderson, et al. and need someone bigger on the end. We aren't moving Bair back to end for sure and Clark is now up in the 280-285 range. This actually makes perfect sense.

Re: New Commit
I remember this guys name in HS, haven't heard anything about him though other than that.
If he's being recruited as a DT, then this is a great pick up for the ducks. We could use some JCs in the middle.

Cool, especially cool if it doesn't count towards this year's class.

Re: New Commit
Yeah, I read that he will count as a 2009 recruit with 2 seasons left to play 2. I guess that means he is like a junior.

Re: New Commit
From pictures I have seen of him it doesn't look like he has the beef to be DT. Unless he is just really really strong. I for one am tired of seeing our undersized D-line getting dominated and giving opposing QB's all the time in the world to throw. But I still love my Ducks no matter who they are, Herman Ho-ching whoever.

Re: New Commit
Definitely a sweet pick up since he counts toward last years class. Add another recruit without taking up a scholarship for this years class. Chip's a genius!

He has 7 sacks on the year. I think he is a guy to help compliment the speedier DE/OLB guys we have.

Re: New Commit
Brandon Bair is another guy who doesn't look like he's big enough to play DT, but he's done a solid job this year. He's 6-7, 270. This guy could get up that big too if he puts in the work.
