This has the making of another 24-0 run. Oregon is literally tripping over themselves… what happened to this team? Still so much ahead of them if they can find their swagger again.

Well….. we won. Dana Altman had a full head of hair at the start of this season, right?

Another game Oregon played poorly and then wanted to nearly give away in the 2nd half. Ducks just look so tentative on offense after all their misses against Cal on Saturday.

This team is so mediocre. They are not even remotely interesting to watch. They play a very ugly, uninspired brand of basketball.

Hoping this is just a bad crop rather than a glimpse into what a Tony Stubblefield-less future looks like.

This. Feels like a team with no direction. Nobody seems to have a role they fully understand and are confident in. They all seem to think their job is to score. No team play and fundamentals are lacking a lot.Bigwaved wrote:This team is so mediocre. They are not even remotely interesting to watch. They play a very ugly, uninspired brand of basketball.
I don’t know if I said it before the season on here but I predicted Altman will suddenly retire after the 23, maybe 24 season. Just got that feeling. I know his contract goes through the 26 season but I have this gut feeling Altman will retire before then.

Kepnang missing two bunnies and then running full tilt into the base of the opposing team's hoop. If this season could be summarized by a sequence of play, it's that one.
Altman's teams have given us a lot to celebrate over the years. But the current one is not worthy to be playing in March.

Not to mention the paltry and unenthusiastic crowds at the games. I think our fan base is what's kinda mediocre and not worth the price of admission. It's a pretty fairweather fan base. I imagine Mookie Cook went to those games last week, follows it up with visiting actual blue blood programs, and sees no contest as to who he'd want to play in front of. The fan support is brutal, and it's a shame how far it's dropped in recent years.

The college helped turn fan support by building Matt Court the way they did. Fan support was a lot better at Mac Court for a variety of ways. Funny we go through the most successful period of hoops and this is still a problem. But with home TV viewing being the preferred method and student partipation falling off.... current reality is what it is.droop10 wrote:You would think we had a storied program, with a rich history as much as our fan base complains about a 17-8 team. I do realize that it's just the fan base in general these days, as the same pertains to football, so I guess I should just get used to it. Yes, it's frustrating how they have spurts of no scoring and an inability to close out games, but at the end of the day they've won 11 of 13 games, including 2 top 5 road wins. Are they the best team Altman, has had? Certainly not, but they're a heck of a lot better than a good portion of those previous teams. They had 1 awful week of shooting, where the ball just didn't seem to go down even on the most open shots, and still managed to win 2 of the 3 games, albeit with one bad loss mixed in.

My own two cents: the end of The Far West Classic tournament really helped kill college basketball in the Portland area for future generations. That was a perfectly timed tournament to get Oregon/OSU alumni and their kids primed for college basketball. Boomer parents would then make the drive down to Eugene when their kids were in college to Mac Court. Gradually, those crowds grew older and the tradition died. Although it's obvious that Phil Knight is trying to revive audiences with his Invitational. But any way you look at it. Basketball at Oregon is now a hard sell.

The question is why was fan support better at Mac Court? I went to school during the Mac Court days, and I loved that old gym, but why would a vastly upgraded facility with better teams cause fewer fans to go? The new ticketing system for students is a bummer. The lottery system is silly. I didn't think standing in line for tickets at the EMU really impacted any of my classwork, but if that's the concern, maybe they just need to sell student tickets rather than give them out. Maybe students will actually bother to use their tickets and we'll get the more passionate ones to actually attend the games.mattc94 wrote:The college helped turn fan support by building Matt Court the way they did. I thought maybe there was a valid theory that fans have been priced out of games, but the upcoming 2 games against ranked opponents have hundreds of tickets going for $6-$10. 100 level tickets are around $33. Those aren't unreasonable prices at all. I'm actually surprised Altman has gotten as many big recruits to come out to Oregon given how lackluster the fan support is. I know there's a number of other factors that play into whether a kid goes to a college, but it's a pretty uninspiring crowd to play in front of, especially if you're a one-and-done kid and are just getting that 1 year experience of college basketball. Go play at a school with a truly passionate fan base.

Two things
I don’t think fans like me are frustrated with the team being “bad”, as they aren’t bad and their record and big wins indicate that. They’re just a frustrating team to watch cause of how inconsistent they’ve been and their sloppy style of basketball. They play a lot of iso ball with hardly any ball movement and because college players aren’t near as skilled as NBA players that style of play is usually much harder to watch in college. It’s similar to the football team this last year too, they would play a clean inspired game at Ohio St and win then just a few weeks later play very uninspired and sloppy against a bad Stanford team and lose. As fans that’s frustrating to watch.
Also regarding fan involvement, I don’t think people are saying it’s dropped since Mac Court, the problem is that Matt Knight is WAY too big for our area so games hardly ever sell out giving the appearance fan involvement has dropped. This was what Rob Mullens was afraid of when he and Phil Knight went back and forth over the size of the arena. Phil wanted it large enough to host an NCAA regional but Rob wanted it to be smaller to avoid this issue. The reality is Matt Knight is too big for Eugene and especially on a 8:00 PM game on a weeknight, the giant stadium will look empty giving the appearance fans don’t care.

This sounds exactly how I felt the last couple years with the football team.

On GoDucks, they have the average attendance at 6,600. That would barely be 2/3 of the Mac Court capacity. Lest we think that lower opponents are dragging the average attendance down, the game against the defending champ and no. 1 Baylor brought in 7,800 fans. This was a game on a Saturday evening. Unfathomable apathy around the program.OregonFan4Life wrote:Two things
