Welcome Aboard Mathis!!!! Go Ducks! This a an awesome get for one of the positions we needed. He looks great for our style of defense and good enough to start immediately. And FAST! Just the thought of Harris & Mathis roaming the backfield for years to come is giving me goosebumps.
He even looks like he's practicing making an "O" at the beginning of the video. It was hard to tell there was an Oregon hat on the table at first. I've never seen this hat before either. We need to hire someone to make sure there is always a new sweet looking hat on the table every time. Could even be a different hat every time. dthomas=ddixon is probably right about the Russel thing.
^It definitely looks like he was practicing the "O" at the begginning of the vid. I wish I woulda caught that when I was watching it live! I about keeled over dead when he held up the Michigan hat
4.28 in the 40. Wow. With the heavy passing attacks in college FB, especially PAC-10, having a lot of DBs is good. Do you think Stanford will rely more on the pass next year? How quick is Harris? Doesn't say on Go Ducks. While not the caliber of these guys, I think Scott Grady could become a respectable backup, along with others. Just think , Boyett has 3 more yrs. If we could get a couple DTs like Ngata or Igor the defense could be awesome.
Getting Dior and having Cliff is starting to look like the Ducks D back in 2001. When we had Baumen and Steve Smith as our corners. NA was able to leave both of them on an island and bring blitzes from everywhere. Can't wait to watch them!

chris johnson ran that at the combine, dior mathis is not as fast as chris johnson. but he's still absurdly fast for a hs recruit
ya agreed. 4.28 is borderline world class sprinter. For comparison, trindon holiday (lsu running back) is a nat. champ. in the 100 (i think) and he only ran a 4.4 out of hs. Not saying hes slow by any stretch of the imagination but 4.28 is a little too much.

Johnson ran a 4.24 at the combine. The difference is probably just that Johnson's was measured electronically, and Mathis' was manually timed (less accurate). A 4.28, even manually timed is a faster time than the manual times you'll see for nearly every recruit out there in any case.
also, just for comparison Justin Gatlin's best 40 time was measured electronically at 4.42... gives you an idea of the acceleration that Johnson has! I doubt Johnson would beat a world class sprinter in a 100 meter race, but if he gets to race Bolt in a shorter race I think he could pull it off with that kind of acceleration.

johnson wants to run a 60 (don't know if its meters or yards) and bolt wants a 100. Johnson might be able to win in the 60, but only because bolts stride will have more effect the longer the race. i'd like to see a 10 yard sprint, you could find some DEs who might win that one just from the short distance
