Record Predictions for the 2024 season…
With the season starting in a few days I thought we could start posting our predictions here! I know my prediction will not be popular but I have this team going 9-3 with the losses below. Last year we had a glaring issue with safeties that Washington was able to take advantage of, and while that won’t be an issue we won’t see the same passing attack or anything close this season. However I still see a major weakness on this team and that’s the OG position. I do feel it’ll be a major weakness and with a few teams in the B1G with elite DT talent that is a bad position to be weak at. In addition I believe the starting defense for Oregon will be great, I am worried about the depth at LB and because it’s Oregon football I’m anticipating at least one significant injuries to the LB’s. Given the run loving nature of the B1G it does make me worry about the run defense as the season goes on.
The three losses I see are:
Ohio State - I think this will be a close and low scoring game, but in the end I think Chip will have enough trickery in the run game to get tOSU in the red zone a couple more times to allow Ohio State to make just one or two more field goals than Oregon. Ohio St may have the best defense in the nation especially after getting Downs, Oregon won’t be able to pass easily on them and with the OG play for Oregon I don’t see Oregon having much success running the ball.
Michigan: I know they lose a lot, but to me this is a matchup issue. Michigan will have the best DT combo in the nation, and again, they’ll beat up the Oregon OG’s. I see Michigan generating pressure on Gabriel with the interior line and I also see Oregon having one or two unforced errors given that it’s in the Big House that will be the difference. Another low scoring game that I see Oregon losing by 3-6 points.
Wisconsin: I think Oregon is a better team, but the game will be in November, it’ll be like -30 degrees, plus they will remember the Rose Bowl losses against Oregon. I see Wisconsin being fired up while Oregon is sleepwalking through the cold and it’s just going to end up being one of those annoying road trap games.
I do have faith in Lanning and think he’ll eventually get Oregon to consistently competing for a national championship, I just don’t see it quite yet. I sure hope
I’m wrong though!

Madison November weather on average is about 10* colder than Eugene. It doesn’t really get crazy colder than Oregon until late December through March. Unless they’re down several staters Oregon should be able to comfortably beat Wisconsin.
I’d bet Oregon loses at least one of the tOSU/Michigan games and make the championship game, or both and is a 9+ seed in the playoff unless there are multiple significant injuries.

I think the weather issue is overblown much like the 'physicality of the Big Ten' narrative. A trip to Madison is more or less on par with a trip to Pullman in the regular season.webfoots2001 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 3:26 pm Madison November weather on average is about 10* colder than Eugene. High & Low averages for November for comparison...
45 29 Madison
53 38 Eugene
46 31 Pullman
51 33 Salt Lake City
66 37 Boulder

We will lose to either Michigan or @Ohio State. And part of me thinks we'll drop one we probably shouldn't (Ex: vs Boise State, @ Wisconsin, @ UCLA).
So either 11-1 or 10-2 (which is probably 80% of Oregon fans predictions lol). Leaning towards 10-2, mostly because we've seen Dillon struggle to throw TDs against some 'meh' teams last year. He threw only two touchdowns combined against OK State, Kansas, and Cincy.
Ultimately, I'm pretty confident we make playoffs which is probably the #1 priority for the season.

Not overly concerned about Michigan, but the Ohio State defense scares me. I would probably rank them as the number 1 team off of that and chip being able to get excellent results out his offenses regardless of talent level.
I can see a loss to Ohio State and a team like usc. Someone we should beat, but has the talent and coaching to sneak out a win.
10-2

I have 10-2 as the floor, the Oct.12 game against Ohio State will be the latest Biggest Game Ever!!!!! Corso will pick the Ducks, then Oregon will win, on a last second field goal. After that we'll see if Oregon can stay on top the rest of the way.

Re: Record Predictions for the 2024 season…
I think it boils down to the health on both lines. We have to be able to maintain a running game, as well as protect Gabriel. We need some young guys to step up in a hurry.
The D-Line has to be able to slow the run and put more pressure on the opposing QB. We have to be able to plug gaps and not let teams with a solid running game and/or mobile QB, continue to run up yards for first downs and milk the clock. Our defense is going to be very good, but our offense should be elite and absolutely MUST have the defense help them to get on, and stay on, the field.
I'm very excited about special teams this year. Atticus Sappington is one of the best kickers in the nation, and our punter is also very good. If we get into tough games of trading field position, we have the weapons to bury our opponents deep or kick a long FG.
I think we'll take the first game from Ohio State at Autzen and lose to them in the conference championship game. One more loss is certainly possible, but I don't think it happens unless we have multiple injuries or just come out flat. I say 11-1, but possibly 10-2.

10-2 still seems reasonable after week 3.

Re: Record Predictions for the 2024 season…
The Wisconsin game looks easier now than it did at the start of the season.
Illinois looks like they might be decent.
UCLA is probably the worst team in the Big 10.
Michigan's QB situation is worse than anticipated.
Ducks should probably be favored in every remaining game--with the exception of Ohio St.
10-2 is pretty reasonable, 11-1 and 9-3 are both pretty plausible as well.
