Expectations this season?

Post by UOducksTK1 »

Looking at our schedule, we will probably go close to .500 in Big Ten play this season and end with a ~ 21-10 overall record.

I think making the NCAA tournament is probably the goal this season (Along with staying healthy).

Having no good idea how good our new players are nor any particular insight as to how good the B1G teams are in general . . . Simply based on what I deem to be Altman's excellent coaching ability, IF we can actually (finally) stay reasonably healthy this season -- and that includes having a truly healthy Supreme Cook for 75% or more of the season -- I would be just a little more optimistic, with wins closer to the mid-20s and relatively safe from the bubble, maybe a 5-6 seed.

Finishing in the top half of the Big Ten with at least 20 total wins should be a realistic goal for them. Really excited to see what Shelstad and Evans can do as sophomores.

This team has an unusually large number of highly recruited players who because of injuries or whatever did not go one and done. They have that extra year of being coached up by Altman, who seems giddy about the health and quality of the team. It's a crew of veteran well-coached kids with quality depth. I bought a ticket at the local casino at 100-1 for them to win it all.

^ True, we do have a lot fewer underclassmen than typical. Also, I feel like our quality of transfers this season is better compared to the last few years. I think Angel and Bamba are gonna hit the ground running.

I think 20 wins is very much achievable and I also get the sense that our B1G travel may actually help us come tournament time in that the travel shouldn't take the same toll on them as it will early in the season.

Over 20 wins, top half finish and a game or two run in the B10 tourney and a tourney spot is my goal.

On paper, this team could be really good. However, we always get hit by the injury bug. If healthy all year, this could a 24-25 win team. If injured then it could be sub .500.

We play UC Irvine tonight at 730.

ESPN's Myron Metcalf and Jeff Borzello put us in Tier 4: Can win a tournament game in this projection article where we end up ranked 27th.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... s-99-teams

Going off their rankings, we're 5th in the B1G (Purdue, Indiana, UCLA, Rutgers, Oregon, Maryland, Illinois, Ohio State)
