Obviously the game threads were littered with quite a bit of Pritchard slander, but not going to link all of those. Came across this thread and found it funny in hindsight. You'll see a number of the same criticisms Shelstad is receiving echoed for Pritchard. This was midway through his junior year. Some funny things to note from it:

1) This team ends up winning the Pac-12 tourney, getting to the Sweet 16 and taking the eventual champs down to the wire. I'm not pointing this out to call anyone out. I wasn't super high on that team's prospects by the midway point of the season either, so it's not intended to be a gotcha moment. Just funny to read the comments, knowing the end result is another Altman masterpiece.
2) People ready to see Richardson take over the point, only for Richardson to be even more criticized later in his career.
I don't see the forum link, but I recall feeling at the time that Pritchard was an obviously talented/skilled player, but that he was being severely limited by his own mental inhibitions throughout the year.

As in, we knew he was good, but he was in his own head. Essentialy, Pritchard was playing far below what he was capable of.

On the contrary, I think Shelstead has performed up to the level that he is capable of and that is a compliment to him this year,

Yeah, I made an edit and forgot to put the link back in. Multi-tasking while working. This is the thread I was referencing: https://ducksattack.com/forum/viewtopic ... +pritchard

Feels like Oregon's PGs always take a lot of heat. I can remember so many times where Garret Sim, Johnny Loyd, Dominic Artis, Casey Benson, Pritchard, and now, Shelstad have taken an outsized brunt of the complaints whenever they've struggled.
I'll admit, I had my frustrations with Sim and Loyd. Both came through big their senior years though. We can also add Aaron Brooks to that list above. I think with age, I've just become a little more patient in accepting that young guys will make mistakes and have ups and downs as they progress. Not to say it's can't be frustrating at times, but I generally take longer to write guys off than I used to. With the hyper-focus on recruiting in both basketball and football, it feels like in general, fans expect guys to be playing lights out right out of the gate, rather than giving them time to go through the growing pains that are common when taking a step up in competition.

PG is also the closest position to QB in football, while some incoming freshman can be great at other positions (mainly SF-C, mostly due to being so physically gifted), it’s really rare to see someone be dominant at PG or QB right away. There are exceptions but PG is the toughest position, so it makes sense PG’s need more time to mature to reach their potential. Shelstad is no different.

After Illinois blasted the Ducks at MKA there was talk of them being a 1-3 seed, however, that was the highpoint of Illinois' season, last night, Maryland took them out, 86-65. Wisconsin, who Oregon beat, eliminated Michigan State. Maryland & Michigan are in a tight one now, Maryland leads, 69-67, with 5:05 left.
Michigan 81 Maryland 80. Great game. Donaldson hits a 3 for Michigan to go up, 79-76 with about :40 left. Maryland makes it 79-78, fouls Michigan, who misses the free throw. Maryland comes down, is fouled, hits both, Maryland up 80-79. Michigan inbounds and Donalson does a Tyus Edney, takes it the length of the court, makes the layup with a tenth of a second left, Michigan wins, 81-80.
