Cole Stokes entering the portal is a bummer. Probably our 2nd best bullpen guy going into next year.

Meh, he certainly had a lot of promise but he was wild at times and did some damage, particularly in the first regional game where he came in and walked two batters on what I think was 10 pitches. But due to his potential it does suck to lose him.UOducksTK1 wrote:Cole Stokes entering the portal is a bummer. Probably our 2nd best bullpen guy going into next year.
At this point in his career it’s going to be really hard for Wasikowski to persuade any quality pitcher to choose Oregon.

C Coen Niclai has entered the portal.
LHP Hunter Hyatt is also transferring.

I think the only transfer I’ve seen coming in was Devin Bell from Western Oregon. They really need to add some quality pitching depth.

Almost feels like they're waiting to see which players from the teams in the CWS might enter the portal.

Hopefully. I’m assuming with Neville and Walsh gone, that would free up some NIL money. I’m sure they both commanded some $$$. Also feel like they need to get a couple more right handed bats. They were so left handed heavy, which was a disadvantage against good left handed pitching. We saw that be a big factor at the end of the year.greenyellow wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 10:03 pm Almost feels like they're waiting to see which players from the teams in the CWS might enter the portal.

Oregon's first portal addition is Gonzaga LHP Miles Gosztola. Not impressive numbers but potentially someone the new pitching coach (whoever Waz hires) can work to improve.

Oregon has landed another transfer as they've added former Texas outfielder Matthew Scott II. High upside power hitter who was highly-rated out of high school.

Gonzaga guy brings experience, and at this point I doubt we add any big splash pitching transfer. So take the depth we can get.
Scott is definitely an exciting piece. Curious if he could contribute right away or would need a year to learn off the bench.

That's really lame, one of my favorite out of the bullpen.

Garcia is a big loss, that one hurts a lot. Pitching is already worrisome again for next year, I don’t see anything indicating it’s going to get better so have a hard time seeing Oregon with a legitimate shot at the CWS anytime soon.

Re: 2025 Baseball Transfer Portal Additions/Subtractions
Part of the issue with all the transfers is rosters are going to be capped at 34 players (which is close to pre-pandemic limits of 35) due to the new House settlement rules. Oregon carried 41 players last season and a few more guys who were essentially redshirting due to injury but didn't count on the official roster. Oregon has at least 14 known HS and JC commits so roster spots are going to be at a premium. Waz has also said in interviews that he wants his program to be about development, not turning over the roster with transfers every season.

They’ve also added Blake Sandvik (pitcher) out of Everett Community College and Devin Bell (pitcher) out of Weatern Oregon.
