This is exactly the type of hire I was hoping Lanning would make. I’m very nervous to have a first time playcaller next year with the talent we have.

Mehringer is not a first-time playcaller. Not saying that he is good or that I know if his offense was good when he called plays, but he has called plays before.OregonFan4Life wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 10:18 pm This is exactly the type of hire I was hoping Lanning would make. Yeah, I really don't get why we didn't try harder to get a proven OC. I just think it's highly unlikely that our in-house option was the best available option.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

Isn’t this his first time as a permanent play caller though? Wasn’t he temporarily calling plays at Rutgers or something like that?pdxduck2013 wrote:Mehringer is not a first-time playcaller. No one knows if this guy is any good do they? We know he's connected to money.
But, aside from 1 season at Tennessee where he had prime Derrick Henry and he was working under Mike Vrable, he's been average has he not?

In the nfl. College isn’t the nfl, and not many nfl OC have had success in college. And vise versa. Am I happy with Drew M? I’m skeptical about his abilities. Would I want a nfl OC? I’d be just as skeptical. Arthur smith isn’t a guy I’d want at UO, unless your wanting to revert back to Dudwig type numbersDuck07 wrote: Mon Jan 26, 2026 4:08 pmArthur Smith is a good OCbellsduck wrote: Mon Jan 26, 2026 12:48 pm No one knows if this guy is any good do they?
