Re: 2026-27 MBB Additions/Subtractions
I'd definitely take a 6'10'' guy with NCAA tournament experience. Looks like Bowen is visiting NC State though.
In answer to my earlier question, it doesn't look like most of Oregon's portal entrants are finding homes so far. I wonder if Altman would consider taking Demir back for depth, or if Dana just knows he has better options. It looks like there are 7 spots left to fill the roster if I am counting right. SG and SF seem pretty well covered with PG a serious issue (hopefully Garland commits and could use a back-up) and the frontcourt still pretty shallow.

Taylor Bol Bowen on his OV. Given how few options remain at PF/C, he wouldn't be the worst addition to Oregon's roster.

Oregon has contacted LSU PG Jalen Reece. Has visits to Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Missouri this week. He's not yet in 247 Sports' transfer rankings but his .9100 portal rating would put him between #96 and #131 on their current list.

Garland will be announcing his choice tomorrow between Oregon and Georgia Tech. Some interesting news is that GT just got a commitment from Lehigh CG Nasir Whitlock today but it sounds like they'd still take both.

Garland to G-Tech. Matt at 247 said they upped their NIL offer substantially at last minute.

Getting kind of scary that Oregon can't land any PGs or big men with the rapidly dwindling supply of both. Not sure how Dana and his team are selling the program at this point if they can't land a single guy with both positions wide open.
With reports that #1 overall player Tyran Stokes is seriously considering Oregon along with Kansas and Kentucky, they might just have to throw everything at him on the roster. Not sure if using Stokes as the primary ball handler in a point forward role is ideal over a veteran PG though.

Yeah inability to get a PG is startling. It seems again that players prefer NIL $$ over a wide-open starting opportunity.

Re: 2026-27 MBB Additions/Subtractions
I understand the negativity after such a terrible season, but I really like what Altman is attempting here. Instead of being like other programs and feeling stuck with an unmotivated roster another year, he just let them all go and started almost from scratch. The fact that he can't immediately replace an entire team is not at all surprising to me. If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it. I mean, I have been kind of surprised that any of these guys have signed to play at Oregon with nobody on the roster, and now that he has a sort of base team to work with, he is going after some bigger fish, despite being hampered by a sub-par NIL. Of course you are going to miss on some, but if he lands even a couple of strong starters, this team is going to be much better than they would have been if he had just sat back and stuck with last year's team.
Frankly, I had Altman retiring and heading off into the sunset this offseason and the team sucking for a few more years. The fact that he is pushing for such a monumental shift shows me that he still cares and has something left in the tank. At this point, I am just rooting for recruits. Basketball is an interesting animal in that you only play five guys at a time. One recruit makes a huge impact. So here's hoping he lands a few good ones.

I mostly agree. I'm just surprised that our limited NIL for guards between top 75 - 150 makes them basically untouchable for us. I didn't think guys from St. Mary's, Hofstra, and San Jose State would be out of our league. You gotta admit that isn't what you expected.Phalanx wrote: Tue Apr 21, 2026 11:28 am I understand the negativity after such a terrible season, but I really like what Altman is attempting here. I don't pretend to know how good these players are, but it seems like the guys Dana is going after didn't belong at SJSU or Hofstra, which is why they are transferring out. As for St. Mary's, honestly, coming to Oregon this year would probably be a step down for a transfer.
There are only about 90 starting spots in the strongest conference in the country and Oregon is offering a few. Let's see how it shapes up.

I would be shocked if we get Stokes. We currently have 7 scholarship guys on the roster. Kansas also only has 7 currently. Its not just an us thing. I guess it will depend on who is willing to pay more for him. He should get good play time at either school.

True but 3 of those are guards 6'4" and under. We have none. So if playing PG is a priority for him, then Oregon makes sense over Kansas who has Taylen Kinney who is gonna run the show.Howry wrote: Tue Apr 21, 2026 2:21 pm I would be shocked if we get Stokes. I still just don't see Oregon being the school. Spending all our NIL bucks on him is similar to spending it on our big 3 last year, and DA has admitted he's going to spread the funds and go after experience.
Spending over half our budget on one guy seems the opposite of what DA's goals are. (unless there's some special Oregon donor stepping up as a one-time thing to fund Stokes)

Re: 2026-27 MBB Additions/Subtractions
Stokes is a 6'7" SF unless they plan on using him as a point forward which based on his Assist to Turnover ratio probably wouldnt be the best choice but who knows.
Maybe with us missing on so many players, Altman may change the plan for this season and throw more money then expected at Stokes.
We need to land some bodies and soon IMO. I just dont think stokes will be one of them. Hope I am wrong.

Oregon sounds like the favorite currently for Taylor Bol Bowen.
