Unless/Until we actually deliver the LeGarrette Blount "ass-whuppin" (see infamous 2009 statement) to the Broncos, I'm going to be worried about this opponent. Surely we can't forget two years ago when the Ducks, as nearly 3-TD home favorites, escaped by the skin of their teeth, with BSU rushing for over 200 yards and the Ducks needing two special teams TDs and a late field goal for the narrow victory. We're 1-3 against these guys.

Feel free to talk about how different it will be this time. I would love to feel reasonably confident.

Oregon should win this game by 3+ TD’s, key word should. This game will quickly tell us about our new coordinators and if Dante truly has grown up.

Boise State may win the Pac-12 and make the playoffs as the G6 rep, but there is still a pretty large disparity in talent. Oregon has 8 players projected to be drafted in the first 3 rounds in the 2027 draft, and the only reason it isn’t more is cause of players like Brandon Finney that aren’t draft eligible yet. Boise state has 0 players projected to go in the first 3 rounds of the draft. This could change and doesn’t tell the entire story but it is clear Oregon possesses quite a bit more talent than BSU.

Boise State fans expect their running offense to be their strength, they have an experienced and solid OLine, but lucky for us that goes against our strength, our NFL quality DLine, and with this strength on strength matchup I expect Oregon to win easily and I don’t mean that as an arrogant Duck fan, just the reality of the situation with Oregon’s DLine.

Maddox struggled last year but there’s potential with him at QB, however BSU doesn’t return much production at receiver but they have some speedsters. Again though Oregon has elite athletes in the secondary, I don’t expect their passing game to be much of a threat

I expect BSU to try and attack the LB’s, and if they’re able to get to the second level consistently and if our LB’s struggle which we fear they may, then BSU may be able to slowly move the ball down the field taking long time eating drives which could pressure our offense.

Boise State is returning four DL and that should overall be a god unit. A great test for our young OL. Though they don’t have much depth beyond that so the ducks may be able to tire them out. At LB appears to be the strength of the BSU defense so it should be a tough matchup for the Oregon TE’s. BSU only returns one starter in the secondary, that groups seems like an unknown, so if Dante really has grown as much as the coaches make it seem and if the OLine hold their own there is no reason the Oregon shouldn’t get some good explosion plays in the passing offense.

With all that said, this really should end up being a score of something like 42-17 and if this ends up being close then I’m not sure this team is a legit national title contender, unless some fluke or injuries happen.

Despite knowing that though, I can’t help but be nervous, cause it’s freakin Boise State.

Or we could not jump to conclusions based on how the first game of the season goes. A team still gelling, shaking off the rust, and playing a very capable team. It could absolutely be a close game than it would be say week 4. I’ll just be happy with a win, however they get it.

True Boise gives us a tough time. True Oregon laid an egg against Idaho a couple years ago. But also true is.... the talent gap is more substantial than it has ever been. This ain't the same Boise teams in the past. This is a glorified Oregon State team.

I remember 2024 Boise State as a bit of an odd game; and, Boise State did have perhaps a generational talent in Jeanty.

Oregon really only had ~10 starters returning from 2023 (Tez, Holden, Ferguson, Cornelius, Harper, Conerly, Burch, Bassa, Boettcher, and Tysheem) and were breaking in a bunch of new starters. The OL had not done the Laloulu/Stother/Pickard shuffle yet and gave up 4 sacks for -32 in the first half which really stymied the offense. Gabriel ends up with a good game throwing; but, 11 carries for -15 yards (including a costly fumble with those sacks).

In the 3rd, Oregon outscored BSU 13-0 holding them to 46 yards of offense in 3 drives. Oregon seems to have regained momentum up 27-20 and driving for a score early in the 4th. Partrick Herbert then loses a fumble and Jeanty immediately comes in and busts a 70 yard TD. Oregon comes back out, and on the second play, Gabriel fumbles and BSU cashes in on another Jeanty score on a short field. Minus the long run, BSU has 34 yards on 3 drives in this quarter.

Oregon's offense ends up with a decent 183 yards in the 2nd half; but, because of the fumbles and return scores, the drive chart has an odd flow: 88 yard TD drive, punt, punt return for TD, fumble, fumble, KO return for TD, punt, 61 yard drive for FG.

Boise-Oregon does have a history of oddball games. The cheap-shot Masoli game in 2008, the OL struggles/Chip's first game in 2009, the Taggart/Cristobal nobody wants to be there game in 2017, and then the sacks/big return plays second half of 2024. My guess is we may finally be due for a more traditional game in 2026? Shouldn't we?
