Yeah Mehringer deserves heat, but also no point in firing him now cause we have nobody capable to call plays due to Dan’s mismanagement of the offense.
For context, Drew is 38, the next oldest coach on the offensive staff is Ka’ai, who is 33. Douglas and Samples are the hot names for taking over playcalling from Drew for the rest of the season, but they’re both 31 and Douglas has 0 playcalling experience and Samples has very limited playcalling experience.
But yeah, fire Terry yesterday, we have assistants that can cover in his departure until we get a real OLine coach in the offseason, and I believe a strong message needs to be sent to the entire coaching staff and fanbase, that Dan ain’t settling.

I meant in-season, since that’s what droop10 was referring to. Firing Mehringer now would only make things worse.UOducksTK1 wrote:Don't you have to adapt to what you have to some extent though? I believe UCLA's defense was ranked 85th nationally against very weak competition going into our game. I know the OL is in shambles, but then design the offense and play calling to work around some of the weaknesses.dthomas=ddixon wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2026 11:26 am To be clear, I don’t want Mehringer fired. I don’t think he’s an offensive genius by any means but I also don’t think it’s fair to judge him with the OL he’s forced to work with. I don’t know how you coordinate a great offense with a line that is a complete mess most plays.
I do think Terry should be fired ASAP. The state of the OL is inexcusable and Mike Cavanaugh is a proven OL already on the staff as an analyst who could step in as an interim OL coach.
We basically score 0 touchdowns until 2 minutes left in the game. The first touchdown on the 2 yard line was really a defensive touchdown if anything.
We did more with Jeff Lockie, Dakota Prukop, etc... And integration between groups also falls on the OC/Head coach. So yeah scoring no TDs against UCLA for 58 minutes is unacceptable period. Don't care how bad the OL is. Also OL pass blocking was much better than their run blocking!!! We had 34 pass attempts and 'only' 10 of those were hurries. So you can't just blame the OL. Mehringer dropped the ball against UCLA.

Oh my bad, yes in-season fires are seldom a good thing.

The more I watch film, the less I blame Raiola and the more I blame the OLine. The fact that Dan hasn’t fired Terry yet is making me start to doubt Dan. If Terry is still employed next season along with the rest of the offensive coaching staff then Dan might be turning into Helf 2.0.

I cannot believe that Dan defended Terry by saying that the line was nominated for the Joe Moore Award. It was clear that last year our offensive line was a weak point of the offense and didn't improve at all over the course of the season. Terry is the MOST to blame for the woeful offensive performances over the past couple of years and needs to be let go yesterday.OregonFan4Life wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2026 8:39 pm The more I watch film, the less I blame Raiola and the more I blame the OLine. "I think it reveals itself. There isn't a timeline. It reveals itself when it reveals itself," Lanning said. "I don't know the exact number of guys we tried out there on Saturday, but it was a lot, and that's hard to build continuity.
"Nobody is separating themselves from a performance standpoint where you're like, 'This guy has to be the guy consistently.' We have to be consistent at that position to be effective. But we have some guys who are capable of doing that. We just have to do it at a higher clip and more frequently. There's going to be really open competition at the position."
I guess having no idea who your best 5 OL are 7 weeks into the season is the “Oregon standard” now.

At a certain point with the season going the way it’s going and nobody separating themselves, why continue playing veterans like Iuli and Rogers who have been awful when you can play young guys like Todi, who will also probably be awful and mistake filled, but at least there’s a chance they could get better by the end of the season. We know who Iuli and Rogers are, there’s not much of an upside to playing them, they simply cannot play the position anywhere close to the Oregon standard, so why not play a young guy who will not be good, but at least there’s a chance/hope they learn, grow, and develop?
I mean game time is the only way for young guys to develop cause it sure as hell ain’t happening in practice with this OLine coaching staff.

That’s precisely the problem though. More snaps haven’t made the older players better. As QB11 has pointed out, even the portal guys of the past left with the exact same technical deficiencies they came here with. More snaps doesn’t make players better if they’re poorly coached. If anything it’s engraining bad habits.OregonFan4Life wrote:At a certain point with the season going the way it’s going and nobody separating themselves, why continue playing veterans like Iuli and Rogers who have been awful when you can play young guys like Todi, who will also probably be awful and mistake filled, but at least there’s a chance they could get better by the end of the season. When the team is playing well, the OL rarely gets enough credit for its contributions. But when the team is in rambles, it shows that the OL is the most important unit in bringing together all the other offensive units and allowing them to run smoothly.Xenocide23 wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 8:25 amI cannot believe that Dan defended Terry by saying that the line was nominated for the Joe Moore Award. The poor performance of the OL against good competition in the years past was blamed on the OL players not being Terry's players. Now that the OL consists of players Terry recruited and developed, we are seeing the opposite of what Terry's supporter throughout the years had been preaching.
