I've been assuming Akili Jr. will get into the game at some point. Is that off the table now?

Our defense is playing well enough that Thomas seems like the right call. Just like last week, if we simply don’t s*** the bed on offense we probably win. That said, if Thomas struggles early I hope the coaches try something else much sooner. Whether they go to ASJr or Raiola, they better have some contingencies in place.

Unless you have a LOT of insider knowledge that the rest of us dont, this seems like a great opportunity to walk this comment back.QuackininBama wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 5:44 pm Not going to lie, so disappointed in Dante. Raiola was awful but to a certain extent he was set up to fail by the Oline’s horrible performance and Drew’s awful game plan. Not sure how much Brock can do with that.dthomas=ddixon wrote:Our defense is playing well enough that Thomas seems like the right call. I do agree with playing Akili. Raiola is no slouch running the ball, the fact that Drew and co didn’t use his legs at all, didn’t run any RPO when it was painfully obvious from the beginning that running the ball wasn’t going to work and neither were deep passes that take a while to develop, was honestly embarrassing. We need to see more misdirection and quick passing game and athletes like Dak in motion more to try and keep the defense honest.

At the same time, when Brock came in they almost immediately scored. That may have been coincidence and doesn’t prove Brock is better than Raiola but I think it shows this is all just complicated. Did Mehringer start calling a different offense for Thomas? Did UCLA change things up once he came in? Did Thomas just get lucky?OregonFan4Life wrote:Raiola was awful but to a certain extent he was set up to fail by the Oline’s horrible performance and Drew’s awful game plan. Either way, him coming in and scoring a TD means Raiola may have played a more significant role in the s*** show. Either way it’s a mess but it at least gives me hope Thomas allow the offense to do some things they could with Raiola.

Thomas did do better than Raiola, though that’s not saying much. I’m not saying Raiola doesn’t deserve blame, he 100% does, but I personally put more blame on the OLine/Terry and Drew. When Brock came in there were more underneath throws that are easy to complete and UCLA was playing prevent defense. UCLA sorta quit in the 4th quarter too, that TD by Stewart was great but that was also a pathetic tackling effort by UCLA.dthomas=ddixon wrote:At the same time, when Brock came in they almost immediately scored. Before Brock came in outside of screens Drew ran the same 5 passing concepts all game, all of which are long developing passing plays which we don’t have time for with an OLine that can’t block anything. Besides didn’t really matter as UCLA knew exactly what Drew was going to call, which honestly isn’t that hard with how elementary his offensive scheme/gameplan was against UCLA.

I have a strong feeling we'll see Akili Smith Jr. today in some situational packages. He is too big of a weapon to leave on the sidelines, and with Lanning inserting himself more into the offensive game planning, I'm expecting us to be a little less vanilla -- especially in terms of QB runs.
I also predict we'll find more ways to get Dakorian Moore the ball. It's criminal how little he's used in our offense, and that must change going forward.
Believe it or not, everything's still up for grabs. This team almost certainly won't run the table, but if it does it's still probably in the playoff. The Ducks would have a nice late-season narrative of Dante Moore returning, beating Ohio State, and peaking at the right time. Who knows what might happen? That's why "one game at a time" matters.
For now, though, let's just beat Nebraska.

Listen, it is what it is. He is getting paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to play football at Oregon.roleplay3r1 wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 12:14 pmUnless you have a LOT of insider knowledge that the rest of us dont, this seems like a great opportunity to walk this comment back.QuackininBama wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 5:44 pm Not going to lie, so disappointed in Dante. This isn't the old days where, "he's a great kid, doing his best, cut him a break", I'm sorry. I know he was hurt, and it was a HUGE hit, but this game is Oregons entire season, and the fact he is going to sit and watch is baffling. If Oregon wins no one will care and we will go about our day, but if he sits out, and we lose tonight, thats it folks, seasons over. This entire season rests on tonights game. If a kid is going to sign a contract for millions of dollars, then he should suit up, and play the game. He's our best quarterback and its not even close.Dante Moore has an estimated Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) valuation of $5 million for the 2026 season playing as quarterback for the Oregon Ducks.
Maybe there is an age disconnect here. I am 54, I run a team of 12, we are expected to produce results. I am NOT a football player, no one is hitting me, but I have taken 12 days off in the last 5 years. I am expected to show up and do my job. If I don't, my replacement is a phone call away. That is just the realism of working for a company. I made $109k last year. If I can't do my job, they will find someone who can. So I get that football is physical, but any job you work for expects results. I am not a monster for wanting a kid who is making five million dollars this year to suit up and play football.

Fair enough. You must have a job where you can call in tonight and tell them that you can't work for the next month, yet still get paid for the entire month. I just don't have any experience with that. But I totally respect your opinion.alabamaduck wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 4:47 pmWorst take ever, you’re embarrassing yourselfQuackininBama wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 4:42 pmListen, it is what it is. Again, head injuries are life threatening. This is not a blister on his toe. Amazing. Jalen Hurts has a blood clot and is out indefinitely in the NFL. There are some things you don't mess with.QuackininBama wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 4:42 pmListen, it is what it is. Cool story, you must be a joy to work for, and with that attitude towards your employees you’re also a lawsuit waiting to happen. I’m 52 and run a team of over 100, my salary is none of your business. If one of my guys gets hurt on the job, yes they get paid while they’re out and they don’t come back to work until they’re cleared by our doctors. They don’t lose their job because that would be not only illegal but just bad business. To each his own I guess.QuackininBama wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 5:01 pmFair enough.
