The post game interview might be the most scariest part of last night.
Nebraska is not that great of a team, and who cares what Brock and Raiola’s attitudes were that whole game.
Not talking about how terrible the offense was and taking some responsibility for that is wild.
It’s scary because it feels like Lanning is out of touch with magnitude of the situation.

Can't say I would turn that down either. I don't think you have any haters. We can all see you genuinely care for the team, but sometimes your "sky is falling" mentality is what gets to us.OregonFan4Life wrote: Sun Oct 18, 2026 8:22 am Win or lose, I was gonna be happy. I’ve gotten to know his nephew lately and his nephew invited me to the game, and I couldn’t say no to that. It was an honor to meet him. And for the OF4L haters, don’t worry, I behaved myself, mostly.

A lot of Lanning hate on here. I think he came out smelling like a rose. The timeouts to end the first half blew up in his face, but really, that's a fairly common strategy and sometimes it gets the other team to press and make a mistake. It could have worked, it just didn't, and that TD wasn't legit anyway, so that isn't Lannings fault that the refs were on the take.
What did work amazingly well was putting Raiola in when he did and letting him run for that first down to get him juiced up. Suddenly, it was USC Raiola, and he just picked his old team apart. The positive momentum play was perfect timing. The hurry up and not letting them substitute was perfect. He suckered the other coach into burning all his timeouts. All we need now is the Ducks Vs Them showing old video from Monday saying this was the plan all along. I give Lanning full credit not only for resurrecting the game, but also infusing confidence into what might be next year's starting QB. He looked defeated and ready to transfer out after last week's game, and now he is totally back. It was an amazing bit of coaching and not lost on this Oregon fan.
I spent some time last night reading the game thread on a Nebraska forum and they think Lanning outcoached Rhule (who they are ready to fire). It was good to get that perspective after reading all the yuck here.

Putting Raiola in the game was 100% the right call. But waiting until the fourth quarter after Thomas threw a pick? He should have given Thomas one possession after halftime and then made the change. What did work amazingly well was putting Raiola in when he did and letting him run for that first down to get him juiced up. Props to Lanning though for keeping everyone focused and in the game.

I actually think Lanning put Raiola in at the exact perfect time. If Raiola had been in there longer, the juice might have had time to wear off. As it was, the Oregon offense punched Nebraska in the mouth and before they knew what hit them, the game was over. Look at the result: Brock knows he got every opportunity to improve, having three quarters to work. Other than that last field goal drive, he did very little and had no complaint about getting replaced. Meanwhile, Raiola had only positive experiences and outcomes after being put in a position that Coach knows he can thrive in. To me, suggesting he should have gone in earlier is like saying a team should go into their two-minute hurry-up offense for a whole half instead of at the end. It misses the point. The point was to land an uppercut and get out of there. A whole quarter was enough time for an 8-point deficit.pezsez1 wrote: Sun Oct 18, 2026 10:33 am

Anyway, look at the result. There was clearly enough time, because it happened, and it is now historical fact.

It does seem Oregon was in a legal formation because of how they were lined up with Koloi Keli at H-Back and Raiola did check with the ref to see he was on the line.

Lanning came out of this looking good? In what universe.
That was the worst 3 quarters of offense I have ever witnessed and keeping the same QB for those 3 quarters is probably the most unbelievable decision by a head coach I’ve ever seen.
His interviews are what I would expect of the coach of Washington state. Happy that our QB’s had a good attitude and resilience of barely beating a mediocre team at home while playing the worst offensive game in the past decade on a 50m payroll.
He is completely lost. Feel sad for him

This only makes sense because it happened to work out. The fact that Oregon won doesn’t mean waiting until the fourth quarter was the optimal decision.Phalanx wrote:I actually think Lanning put Raiola in at the exact perfect time. Raiola has already entered a game in relief this year, and “the juice” never wore off. He lit USC up for 3 quarters.
The entire situation was unnecessary and manufactured by an offensive staff that is just guessing and hoping things work out. If we’re to the point of intentionally self-imposing limits on the team for 3 quarters so we can release our secret weapon in the 4th quarter, all in an attempt to catch a mediocre Nebraska team off guard, then this staff has completely lost the script. Football isn’t nearly this complicated.

Unfortunately I have to agree. Who cares how hard you worked on a terrible game plan? That’s the whole problem! Working extra hard on something that clearly isn’t working isn’t admirable, it’s stupid.UOducksTK1 wrote:The post game interview might be the most scariest part of last night.

The offense is putrid, anemic, whatever you want to say. I do think Lanning clearly believes this team should be better:
"I'll never make excuses; we have talented enough players for us to be better than we've been."
But each game now feels like very possibly the end of the season in terms of making the playoffs. Even playing at a not very good Fighting Ilini team this week, I'm not at all confident, especially if Dante is still out.

This. This only makes sense because it happened to work out. The fact that Oregon won doesn’t mean waiting until the fourth quarter was the optimal decision.
By the same logic, Lanning also waited until just the right time to switch out Raiola with Thomas against UCLA -- and we lost that one.
Make the changes just after halftime and we win both games, not just one.
Raiola's run was great, but I don't think it juiced up the offense more than it bailed out the coaches. I'm also not sure that was a designed run, I think he just saw an opening and was smart enough to take it. The big game changer was suddenly we had a QB on the field who was getting the ball out quickly and accurately, and also he could move around in the pocket and start hitting guys beyond the sticks. And once we could throw, then the run game opened up.
The coaches still made some weird decisions on that last drive (such as deliberately taking two tries to convert a first down from fourth down, rather than taking two shots at a first down) but props to our players for having heart and finishing it out.
I really do like Dan Lanning. We've seen what he can do when he has competent coordinators. He made a dumpster fire of an internal promotion and now he's dealing with the consequences. I agree with what others have said, I think he's flailing a bit and he looks a bit overwhelmed. Can anyone blame him, though? I'm sure he's feeling the heat from everywhere, even if he won't admit it.
You can like Dan Lanning and believe he's the man to lead us to a championship AND ALSO believe that he ****ed up last offseason and that he's in over his head right now. Both really appear to be true.
Crazy thing though is I still see a reality in which THIS FLAWED OREGON TEAM runs the table and sneaks into the playoff.
Willie Taggart is a dick.
