Re: Oregon OC wishlist/potential hires
I want Chip. He's a proven guru, he never lost his edge, and despite his track record I think he'd be less of a flight risk given that he just recently dabbled in the NFL again. Plus, he's an Oregon legend. I couldn't think of a better Oregon coaching partnership unless they brought back Mike Belloti as an analyst. Chip wouldn't have to recruit much in the NIL era, and Dan could sell the aura of Chip better than anyone else. He won a title with Ohio State just a few years ago and now he's killing it at Northwestern (of all places). Imagine what he could do here?
Also, just for kicks, let's start talking about Oregon OC Chip Kelly re-hiring Mark Helfrich to be his QB coach.

While we’re at it might as will hire Mario as OLine coach too.pezsez1 wrote:I want Chip. Chip is an OC at Northwestern, and OC at Oregon would be an upgrade. Mario is HC at the #1 team in the country which is also his dream job. While we’re at it might as will hire Mario as OLine coach too.
That said, if Mario called and offered to be our Oline coach, you would say yes.
So did you have a point, or were you just being silly?
I wouldn't say no to that either. Dude had results and virtually no drop-off. We just need guys who really know football. Let Dan & Division Street handle recruiting. And bring back Gary Campbell as RB coach
Willie Taggart is a dick.

I would love Chip but there’s real baggage there between him and the school/boosters that won’t be easily overcome. Never mind that Dan would have to be willing to let Chip take the spotlight. He already gets all the credit for what’s happening at Northwestern, if the programs favorite son were to return and have success the fan base would give him all the credit and crown him king of Eugene once again.

Yeah, having success would be terrible. Let's not do that. Imagine Lanning's recruiting and Chip's scheme. We can't have that kind of thing happening, think of the egos that might be bruised by all the winning.

Re: Oregon OC wishlist/potential hires
I don't know where some people's narrative has come from that Lanning would have too much pride to hire Chip. I continue to maintain that I think there's a very real chance Chip just doesn't want to come back to Oregon in an OC capacity. I'd love to be wrong, but I am not banking on it, and I think that's probably a choice on his side rather than Lanning or Oregon not being interested in bringing him back.

that Chip would return to Oregon is a pipe dream. We need someone who will stay for several years. Chip flits about like a fly at a picnic.

I don't see Chip returning, for ONE reason. He LOVES the NE. It's his home, like we talk about our coaches leaving to "Return home", yep, Chip is already home and having success. There is no upside for him.

Re: Oregon OC wishlist/potential hires
Now THAT is the pipe dream. Anyone who has the level of success we'll want will only be here for a few years tops.We need someone who will stay for several years.
That should be fine, though. There are lots of great OC candidates out there. We just have to actually go and look for them.
