BB record last 5 years

Post by gofightingducks »

Basketball records by year for the following 5 years

14-13
15-18
29-8
18-14
8-23

Broken down to apply to a 12 game football schedule (13 if you include a bowl game)

7-6
5-7
10-3
7-6
3-9

I don't think the fans, boosters, admin would allow the football coach to post results like that, so why is it acceptable for the BB coach to do it?

I thought I would bring up this thread again. Counting this season, that's 1 good season out of the last 6. Is that acceptable to you Jeff?

The basketball program and football program aren't on the same levels...you can't expect the same results...This is what i'm talking about...The football team was built up to this...In the 90's this is about on par...Are you serious a 10 win season for the football team in the 90's would have been nuts...and it was..and we began to grow to bigger and better things...winning season's were what was important to the football program and then bowl games and then competing for pac-10 championships and now national championships...You all look at the basketball program like it should be of this caliber because out of nowhere EK took it to the elite 8...Literally out of nowhere...And then he took it there again...I don't understand how you all can't see that...And how this team is working towards that

yeah cause 3 straight years of regression is working towards a return to an elite 8....what?!?!?

Yeah our football team sucked in the 90's, is it the same now? no.

why is that? better coaching more resources.

Rich Brooks laid the foundation, Bellotti turned it into a contender, Kelly is turning into a national power

Oregon has all the resources and exposure in the world, there is no reason we can't at least be ranked every year and getting 4 5 or 6 seeds in the tournament every year. All I ask is to have a consistently above average team that occasionally makes a run and there is absolutely no reason this can't happen with a half-way competent coach given everything the athletic department has at their disposal.

Basketball should be held to a high level. It's not like in football where the state doesn't produce high quality players. If the right coach was here he can get 2 very good players from Oregon every single year. That would be like the football team getting 10 kids 3* or better from Oregon year in and year out. How much easier do you think CK's job would be if he could get 10 D1 kids from Oregon a year.

That is why we need to get rid of Kent. If we want to have similar success with the BB program as we do with the FB program we need a coach that can be consistent. Since the team did go to 2 elite 8's we now strive to duplicate that success year in and year out. Not one good season followed by 3 crappy one's. Once you have had success with a team the expectations are greater and you need to maintain a similar level of success. Instead of getting better the BB program has been on the decline. Kent had 2 really good seasons and a couple of good seasons but mostly the team has under perfomed. People like to talk about how great a recruiter Kent is, well if that is the case then why do they play so terrible? Because he is a bad coach or because he really is not that great of a recruiter? I think both. Rich Brooks turned the football program around and brought it to a certain level, Mike Belotti took it to the next level. Kent turned the program around and has brought it as far as he can, it is time for someone else to take it to the next level.

We have one loss in conference play at the most if Mark few was our coach right now.

Few is good, but I'm actually jumping on the Dave Ross (BYU) for HC bandwagon. It may only be me right now, but hey it has to start somewhere. He's not LDS so no real ties to the school, and in his first 4 years he finished the MWC 2, 1, 1, 1 and is in first right now.

Dave Ross would do just fine to, I would have no problem with that hire in fact I'd be excited about it. Few is my guy but anyone is better than Ernie at this point except maaayyyyyybe Tim Floyd.

I would be happy with Few. If not him, then an up and coming coach, maybe from a program that is good but doesn't get too much attention.

I like him as a coach as well. Right now there are 3 top 25 teams from the MWC and BYU was ranked as high as #10 I think this season. They play a pretty good non-conference schedule every year and beat some pretty good teams. BYU is not a school that gets 4-5* players so he is doing well to coach and develop his guys. Imagine what he could do at Oregon? Mark Few would be a good choice as well, he might also be the better recruiter of the two.
