But, IMHO, a good program doesn't need to be "turned around", every couple of years...
Oregon has pretty much everything it needs to be a vital, growing entity on the basketball map, except 1.
Effective, Consistent, Leadership.
Without it, things will not change for the better on a consistent basis.
The players, the school, and Duck basketball fans deserve better.
Success in the classroom and life are only a part of the big picture.

I think that's a key for Ernie's teams. He's the best as a coach when he brings in a recruit who knows what they're doing. Aaron Brooks and Luke Ridnour are arguably two of best leaders ever to play at Oregon. Armstead has shown promise, but IMO he's not quite there yet and might not be the solution. Another problem is that Ernie pretty much named TP the leader, which was an awful mistake. Porter's been pretty useless these last couple seasons.woundedknees wrote:But, IMHO, a good program doesn't need to be "turned around", every couple of years...

Leadership is key, and if Ernie's poor coaching starts to show when he doesn't have a player with leadership to make him look good.

Ernie's style of "Leadership identification' reminds me of a high school music director I used to know... It didn't matter how talented his underclassmen were, if there was a senior in the group, that was the featured soloist.
Kid didn't have to be able to carry a tune in bucket.
It's like "Stick with me for 4 years, and I'll make you a leader!"
