When and only when...

Post by nogerO »

We get a coach who understands that you build a great team from the inside out and can recruit said "aircraft carrier", then and only then will be ever get to the final four. EK couldn't or wouldn't recruit a great big man, and even if he had done so, he couldn't coach the big guy out of a wet diaper... Whoever gets this job had better understand this and make it his top priority or he will be looking for a job in a couple of years.

You don't think it's possible to get to a final four without a great big man?

Anything is possible. Getting to the final four with a great big man and a solid team around him is a much more likely scenario...Just imagine Freddie and the Lukes with a really good big man in the middle...final four written all over it.

I agree, being able to recruit big men and coach them to their full potential is huge, and something I want to see happen with the next head coach. We still wouldn't have been great, but we would have been much better this season if Dunigan was more consistent. Good teams don't just rely on their guards to make shots.

Well a number of the rumored coaches are all in the tournament so we can look at their rosters and see how far they go with that talent and whether they have a talented big man or not and make a bit of a determination as to whether they will be the right fit for Oregon. I think regardless of how far Texas A&M, Minnesota or Pitt go in the tournament any one of those coaches would be a great fit. I am already getting excited again for Oregon basketball!
