Mike Dunlap?
What do you guys think about him as a potential hire? He's been a big-time assistant coach and a very successful head coach at DII, but never a D1 head coach. He was a big part of Arizona's success under Lute Olson, but he didn't exactly turn the Ducks around this last year (though I did like the press he helped implement).
And here's an interesting article on him and the other assistant coaches: http://www.registerguard.com/csp/cms/si ... oregon.csp

Re: Mike Dunlap?
his defense didnt really stop anyone. not sold on him as the head coach.
they really need someone that the fan base is going to get excited about.
someone that will help fill matt court. he just doesnt jump out at as that
person. but that's just my opinion.

No. Not a big enough name. It also didn't look like he helped at all with this years team. The ducks can do better.

Were all of the assistants fired too? I know that's what KVAL was reporting, but i didn't hear anything about it yesterday.

Re: Mike Dunlap?
I think that the new head coach will keep Payne and possibly Dunlap to maintain some continuity and then will hire another to replace Rosemond. After the first year though, I think they get rid of Payne and/or Dunlap to get a staff of their own people.

Re: Mike Dunlap?
Payne is widely considered one of the nation's premiere recruiters, and keeping him on the staff will help keep the players from transferring, as he's the one who recruited most, if not all of them. There's nothing to suggest that the new coach would dump him in after a year.
Heck, considered how coveted he is nationally, one of the new coach's biggest initial tasks will be to get Payne to stick around. We're likely going to have to fight to keep him from going to Kentucky in the off-season.

I think if we hire Turgeon, Dixon, or Few, I think Payne stays since he has a good relationship with Turgeon, Dixon will need someone to transition him to Oregon, and Few will need someone with a national name to recruit.oregontrack wrote:Payne is widely considered one of the nation's premiere recruiters, and keeping him on the staff will help keep the players from transferring, as he's the one who recruited most, if not all of them. Mops is reporting that Dunlap will interview for the Oregon head coaching position. I think they can do better.

The Register-Guard said Dunlap was interviewing yesterday. Dunlap's a good guy and smart basketball coach, but I think it's just a courtesy.

Same, I think he could be a decent coach, but right now with the new arena, and with the money we have, we're gonna aim high.oregontrack wrote:The Register-Guard said Dunlap was interviewing yesterday. Dunlap's a good guy and smart basketball coach, but I think it's just a courtesy.
