Would you trade 2 more terrible years for maybe improvement?
Would you trade two more terrible years like last year because of a new coach coming in and telling a few players to leave the program, a few others leaving because they don't like the hire/mad at coaching change, and basically be the bottom feeder of the Pac-10 for easily two or three more years while a new coach tries to bring in his players?

usually at most 2 or 3 players leave, typically ones who've only been in the program for a year and haven't burned their redshirt. i could see jamil possibly leaving, and maybe another player, but most will stay since they're juniors. the new coach will get to bring in his players over the next 2 years as our current players graduate, so i don't think it's gonna be a typical rebuilding situation. its not fair to assume a new coach comes in and wins right away, but i think that could happen with us and jamie dixon (or insert new coach) can win a pac 10 championship with ernie's players in one of the next 2 years.

I think potential player transfer concerns are completely overblown. Oregon has talent and the Pac-10 is going to be awful again next year. If Oregon is still terrible the next two years they've hired the wrong coach.

I definitely agree with that. I guess the answer to mops question would be no.

No, and with the right hire we won't have to because the two Terrance's are waiting to see who Oregon gets before committing. Pull both of them in along with the talent that is here, and UO will finish in the top 3 of the Pac-10 next year. Of course Jones is one and done, but I think it well worth it.

That's really what I care about: getting the top players from Oregon to come to Oregon. I would rather have a coach who can make Oregon a BB destination and lock down the state's top recruits while being able to recruit elsewhere. As for losing a lot of players to transfer, I think we don't lose as many as people think. 1-3 players are going to transfer if they don't like the new coach but someone like Dixon or Turgeon could really grow on the players and they may not transfer. As for those who could possibly transfer, I could see Jamil Wilson possibly going to like Michigan State or somewhere in the Big Ten and possibly one or two of the Chicago kids will go back closer to home.buckmarkduck wrote:No, and with the right hire we won't have to because the two Terrance's are waiting to see who Oregon gets before committing. Mops,
have you heard anything about current players being pissed as hell about Bellotti firing Kent and then leaving? I know a few people who have told me this is a big issue and Oregon could lose some people because of it.

Ya I have heard that. Is it entirely true? Not totally sure but I am looking into it.

But since he fired him on Feb. 22nd, I don't think it would be as big of a deal unless the players honestly didn't know he was fired. It does seem a little unsavory to have the AD resign only a couple days after firing your coach, so I could see how the players are upset at it. These players seemed to genuinely like Kent and didn't really want to see him go so if some left, it would not be a complete shock.Mops wrote:Lord_Vader wrote:Mops,

Singler, Williams and the kids from Chi have all come out and said they are staying, but the rest are anyone's guess. I bet most stay, and I don't think we can afford to lose Armstead or Jacob. Longmire has already RS and will be a SR so you have to believe he will be back also.

It would be unfortunate if anyone is pissed off at Bellotti for firing Kent and bolting. The call didn't come from Bellotti... a pre-arranged agreement from the Kilkenny days + a bunch of angry boosters is what ultimately did Kent in. Bellotti had precious little to do with it.

My thoughts exactly. MB leaving shouldn't give the bball players any reason too be pissed.oregontrack wrote:It would be unfortunate if anyone is pissed off at Bellotti for firing Kent and bolting. I also don't see Wiley and Sim tranferring, plus Jacob doesn't have a RS year available anymore since he received one for being injured in his one year at Georgia.buckmarkduck wrote:Singler, Williams and the kids from Chi have all come out and said they are staying, but the rest are anyone's guess.
