Andy Katz said that in addition to Stevens, Oregon might look at Dave Rose and Lon Krueger. Yuck!!!!!!!! Has it really come to that? I think I would even prefer Alford.

I thought the current train of thought is that Andy Katz doesn't have a clue what is actually going on? Why are we relying on him for any insight?

What's wrong with Dave Rose? He'd be a great coach here I think. He certainly is a proponent of the style that Oregon fans have become used to with an up and down type game. He'd at least be on my list of people to interview.

I don't think he has enough on his resume, and a lot of people would say: "who is he?" Also, would he really be a great recruiter and someone to get people excited about Oregon basketball again? Maybe I'm spoiled by all of the big name talk, but I think Oregon should and will do better.

I think it's time to get over the big name thing and get a guy who'll win. Winning gets me excited. Besides, other than basketball fanatics, most fans couldn't tell you the name of any basketball coach other than Mike K, Phil J, and Rick P. I think they'd be ok with a guy that played with Olajuwon and Drexler at UH's Phi Slamma Jamma and a guy that has won 127 games in 5 seasons and been to the NCAA's 4 years in a row. I'm not saying he'd be number 1 on my list, but he'd be worth checking out.

^Agree 100%. It'd be nice to get a big name but like you said, the name doesn't excite me. Winning games does. The arena will sell out the first year no matter who the coach is. As long as he comes in & wins, the excitement will build & the fans will come.

But the bar has been raised. I just don't see someone like Dave Rose coming and putting up a greater winning percentage than Kent did. Just my opinion.

Dave Rose nice 5 year record. Only 1 season with less than 25 wins and a exciting brand of basketball.

2005–2006 BYU 20-9 12-4 T-2nd NIT 1st Round
2006–2007 BYU 25-9 13-3 1st NCAA 1st Round
2007–2008 BYU 27-8 14-2 1st NCAA 1st Round
2008–2009 BYU 25-8 12-4 T-1st NCAA 1st Round
2009-2010 BYU 30-6 13-3 2nd NCAA 2nd Round

His record is deceptive. Look at the conference he played in. That alone has padded his won/loss record. Then look at his postseason record. One and done every year except this year. I don't see this guy as a good hire at all.

Another reason that Rose should be considered a last resort is that he just finished treatment for cancer, so long-term viability here is a concern.

Andy Katz brought up his name.

Would he leave?

He said pass to the one school, Houston Cougars, that he has always wanted to coach from the very beginning thanks but no thanks because I like my job.

He played at Houston and has said he's wanted it for a many years.

Getting to the tourney four straight years when all you have to work with is a mid-major is pretty damn impressive in my book. People need to remember that mid-majors are not going to have as impressive of resumes as big conference coaches because they're at such a disadvantage.

I'm still not impressed. However, you have a right to your opinion just as everyone else does.

Personally, I think Mike Dunlap may be the perfect choice for the job, but there are many here that would disagree.

Unless we get a BIG name hire there are likely going to be a lot of mixed opinions when the dust finally settles. To each his own.

I'm with you on Dunlap. He's worked with some great coaches and deserves a shot as an HC.
