Alford was one of my top remaining choices.

How about Dayton's coach, Brian Gregory? Winning the NIT is moderately impressive.

There just doesn't seem to be any big-name coaches left who want to come here. It seems like we are going to be getting some guy who's been out of college basketball doing color commentary or an up-and-coming assistant/mid-major coach that's not going to enthuse the general fan base.

Not if they've been out for over 5 years since their recruiting contacts are probably going to be a little out of date and so might their coaching skills.

Meh... Alford was never, ever a serious candidate. His days at Iowa are MUCH more relevant to our needs than what he's done at New Mexico. This wasn't a swing and a miss at all. The guy's a douche.

I'm not sure he could have handled being second fiddle to the football team like he was down at Iowa.

For the record, I was making fun of the people who have said that every time another team's coach signs an extension. It wasn't a swing & miss cuz #1, I don't think we were even going after him & #2, like you said, we wouldn't even want the guy.

IMO, he would have been an alright hire but not a great hire. I really have no idea who the ducks are going after right now, especially since we haven't heard anything for a few days.
