Jones and Ross both to Washington. Ouch.

The coaching situation is what really turned him to Washingon. Sounds like he wanted to play for Oregon before all of the coaching stuff happened. He sort of alluded to that in his decision.

It wasn't just the coaching situation. He said that that he wanted to go to an established program (i.e. a winner). He wasn't coming here because the team has been garbage for the past two years.

I don't think the Huskies are considered an established winner. Romar is just as inconsistent as Ernie was. Especially when you consider the talent that he has had.

But they haven't had as bad of seasons as Oregon has had and his teams are always competitive, unlike Kent's.

Washington is losing Pondexter. I don't think they are a guarantee to automatically win the conference next season and be better than they were this season. Sure Jones is supposed to be great, but he will just be a freshman.

EK is gone... There was no effort put into recruiting from sometime in February, if you believe some reports. No effort=No reward.

Nice parting shot. If EK loved the Ducks as much as he insinuated over the years, recruiting should have continued unabated. It's part of the job.

Had the coach been hired a little earlier, I am not convinced that it would have changed the outcome of Jones decision, but Romar's new contract probably didn't hurt things.

The flip side of the coin is, had Oregon built on the early season sweep at WSU/UW (Instead of imploding), EK would still be here, but it might have made a difference in the minds of some recruits.

Here's hoping a certain 6'7" recruit from LA signs this weekend, and busts his chops making Duck fans forget the 2 T's.

Washington had two pretty bad seasons in 2006 and 2007. Boy have things changed fast. The ducks need to rebound like that.

But they are coming off of a sweet 16 appearance. Romar is an average coach, but he is a great recruiter.

Washington may go to the Elite 8 next year...

Oregon needs to consistently be competing for one of the top 3 spots in the Pac 10 if they want to keep in state kids.

As I said earlier in this thread, anyone who really believed that Jones was coming to Oregon was delusional.

The fact that this kid postponed his decision for so long and turned down established winning programs in Kentucky and Kansas makes me believe he wanted to stay close to home and play for Oregon. The turmoil at Oregon allowed Washington to backdoor there way in.

Yeah, I just don't think they are an automatic top 10 team. Washington struggled for the first half of last season even with Pondexter, Thomas, etc.

Jones is a much better outside shooter than Pondexter. Jones is going to make an immediate impact and Ross is a very good shooter. Matthew Bryan-Amaning looked like a stud in the tournament. And while I'm not too fond of Isaiah Thomas, Abdul Gaddy has the potential to be a standout player. Washington is going to be dangerous in the tournament. If Jones stays more than one year, Ben Howland may want to start packing his bags...

So Kent screws over the program once again, even after he's gone. The bunker mentality of him and his coaching staff is really going to hurt the program that he claims he loved. Getting Polee and Loyd won't solve a lot of Oregon's problems but it will at least keep it from going off the road completely. If Altman can't get any recruits this year, it is going to be a long year and I could see some more players possibly transferring.

Have you looked at there roster.........? They recruited one of the best PG's in the country last year.

Washington was a young team last year and unfortunately they will be very exciting to watch.

Yes Washington should be good and I want Oregon to win right away, but I have confidence in Altman even if it takes a few seasons to rebuild.

It will take Altman at least 2-3 years to get everything in order since Kent had let certain things lapse, like scholarship balance and skill development of players already in the program.

I think that having a new coach in place will now help Oregon since it sounds like a lot of coaches in Oregon didn't like dealing with Kent. Plus, people on the AAU circuit seem to rave about Altman (per Mops' Twitter).
