The rumor from Las Vegas....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

is Polee is leaning towards Oregon. He is no longer interested in UNLV. Georgia is still in the mix and to a lesser extent, so is St Johns.

My brother lives down there, he's a UNLV alum and usually has pretty good info regarding the Rebel's program as he is pretty friendly with a few people with close ties to UNLV.
This rumor is not entirely true. UNLV is out, but St. Johns is still in the mix. Polee likes Lavin and the idea of playing in NYC, even though Queens isn't exactly Manhattan.

The funny thing is that St Johns fans think that they are getting a magician in Lavin, but what they don't understand is that many recruits came to UCLA in spite of Lavin. Baron Davis on his time at UCLA:
“We should have a banner up there: the only team to make the tournament without a coach.”

St. Johns fans are completely delusional. The program has never won a national championship. They act like they should be good since they're in NYC and had some success throughout the 70's and 80's. In terms of prestige, St Johns is like UCLA's neglected step cousin.

The school does not have the resources to compete with programs like Syracuse, Pitt, Uconn, Villanova, Georgetown, Louisville, etc.

I expect programs like Depaul, Cincinnati, and even Rutgers to rebound before St Johns does.

Lavin should have taken the NC State when it was offered to him a few years ago.
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

My friend who works at St Johns-texted me that Polee hated Eugene, but his mom loved it. I think he ends up at St Johns, but this will be an interesting week.

Well at least we got his parents on our side ha. Don't know how much you can read into a report from someone inside St Johns though. No matter what they're gonna be somewhat biased.

This is complete BS. My friend who actually knows Polee said that he loved the campus and the facilites and had a good time. St. Johns is still in the running though. Polee is thinking about an NBA career and playing some games in Madison Square Garden is appealing to him, according to my friend.

Just my opinion- I think distance will be a factor in this case. I had assumed before that UNLV would have a leg up due to distance and the fact that his dad played there, so I could be wrong.

My friends source is Lavin, so of course it's biased. I do get the impression that Polee isn't a guy who would like living in Eugene. From what I can tell-he's a big city guy, that's why I think he ends up at St Johns. My opinion, no one elses.

This may have no bearing on Polee Jr's recruitment but I know Altman & his dad are really good friends. Maybe Altman will look to hire Polee Sr? Guy has a ton of LA connections & has been around bball a long time.

Dwayne Polee, who since 2007 has been USC's director of basketball operations, turned in his resignation last week, and his departure from the program should become official later this week, sources close to the situation confirmed Monday with The Times.

Why would a source in the St John's program know how the visit went across the nation?

Makes you wonder if he will get a job at whatever school his son chooses. Or he didn't want to possibly be working for a school in the same conference that his son picks.

According to my source, his dad and him are a package deal. Hire dad as an assistant-my son plays for your school. I don't want the kid or his dad under those circumstances and I don't think St Johns does either. Imo, neither new staff wants a recruit under these conditions. The media backlash and attention isn't worth it. If he was Danny Manning Jr, it would be worth it. This kid isn't going to bring us a national championship, so I hope he has success somewhere else. If we can get the kid, but don't have to hire Sr, I'm ok with that, hiring his dad isn't worth it.

i understand your point if the only reason to hire his dad was to get the recruit, then of course don't do that. but there's been speculation that the connections Polee Sr has and his bball knowledge and his personality would make him a great asst coach for anybody. i just posted that the ncaa is cracking down on these package deals, but personally i think both Jr and Sr could both do some good things here at Oregon, i'm just not sure we'd be allowed to bring aboard both.

I would totally be against bringing in a coach just to get his son but that isn't what this would be. Altman & Polee Sr go way back, are very good frineds & on top of it I think Polee Sr is a pretty good basketball guy and would be a really good assistant.

Getting his son would just be a bonus. Polee Sr has a ton of LA connections, is really well know down there, & played basketball at the highest levels & was good at it.

Altman may have been planning to bring in Polee Sr as an assistant all along & thats why he hasn't made a decision on Payne. Now that he's recruiting his son it could be somewhat of a no brainer. Altman is a character guy, I wouldn't be worried about him pulling any shading recruiting tricks.
