Re: Jamil Wilson transferring?
Just don't get this Jamil hype. Just because he was highly regarded out of high school, does not mean he is going to be a high level college player or get to the NBA. Kids mature quickly or wash out all the time.
The NBA talk is a joke, right? Every player that has even sniffed the NBA from Oregon as made an immediate impact from the day they stepped on campus, including Kenya, Leunen, Malik, Brooks, Rid, Jackson, Taylor, Brandon, etc. And they all did it on better teams. You may be able to argue that Jones had a rough first year, but he still was a better player than Jamil was last season.
Look, I agree that Kent is a bad coach and does not develop players, but every player on the team was in the same situation. How was EJ was able to come in and contribute as a freshman?? He had the same coach and PG as Jamil, didn't he?? Not only could Jamil not even beat out Longmire (who wouldn't start for any other Pac-10 team), but he couldn't even manage to get into the 9 deep rotation on a horrible team. His defense is awful, he does not move well without the ball, and ball handling is suspect at best. He has a decent shot and a little bit of rise, but that's it. That gets you a LONG way in HS, but not very far in college or in the NBA.

Re: Jamil Wilson transferring?
Dude all those guys played way more then Wilson. If Wilson was getting 25-30 minutes like all the other guys you mentioned, then of course he'd be more productive. Kent's inability with the last few classes to distribute the talent clearly screwed up our entire system and never gave a guy like Wilson to get the minutes he deserves. Check out these two freshmen...northbeachsf wrote:Just don't get this Jamil hype. Jamil Wilson 16mpg and shot 43% 5ppg 3rpg 1apg
Aaron Brooks 26mpg and shot 37% 7ppg 2rpg 2apg
Brooks even got 10 more minutes than Wilson but managed to suck more then Wilson did as a freshman.
Let's get real. Had Brooks left after his freshman season, you guys probably wouldn't have cared either. It's all about upside. Jamil has unreal athleticism, and he has a NBA body. His game is so explosive and if he was given the minutes, I have no doubt he'd end up with stats like Hairston and Taylor.

A lot of those players you mentioned did not put up great stats as a freshman. Some also got more minutes then Wilson. And if you look at Wilson's stats, he often did contribute. He was just misused by Kent. How many freshman come in and get 20 points and 10 boards a game? I don't care how good you are in high school. A lot of top freshman just don't come in and dominate in a conference like the pac-10.

The loss will probably hurt a little next season but I am not certain his presence would have made much of a difference with a new coach, new system, etc. I do think Altman would have been able to develop him into a good player but it would have taken some time. Again it is better to have players that want to give it their all and play for the Ducks. I think Altman will be able to replace him this next recruiting cycle with someone with just as much potential. Good luck to him at Marquette. It will interesting to follow him and see what could have been.

Yeah I don't think the impact this loss will really hurt us this season. I mean depth is an issue, but I was not expecting Wilson nor the ducks to be very good this year. Anyway, he's gone so it doesn't matter anymore. I'm looking forward to see who Altman can pull in for the 2011 class.gofightingducks wrote:The loss will probably hurt a little next season but I am not certain his presence would have made much of a difference with a new coach, new system, etc. I do think Altman would have been able to develop him into a good player but it would have taken some time. Big loss for the basketball team. This is going to be a very rough year, likely a last place finish.
Best of luck to Jamil.
Best of luck to Jamil.

Re: Jamil Wilson transferring?
To the people who think EJ was so much better than Jamil...... EJ played 7.6 more minutes per game......
He only averaged 1.4 more ppg.....1.1 more rpg .....and .2 more apg
Jamil averaged slightly higher steels and blocks per game.
EJ was given 45% more minutes than Jamil and basically didn't do anything with it....
Ernie Kent gave EJ the 3rd highest minutes per game last year....... When I watched the games... I though Jeremy Jacob was arguably are best player last year.... and should have had a lot more minutes.... I also thought Wilson was never given a chance to get into a rhythm.......between Ernie's crazy substitutions and TP jacking up all of the shots.. he had no chance last year.

We will have to play more as a team to have any success this season. Who knows, that might happen because of Altman. I don't think we have one player that can score 20 points a game and just take over. It will be interesting to see how the offense looks without Porter. I'm also hoping Dunigan will be better.

Re: Jamil Wilson transferring?
I think that Jamil would have gotten a lot more minutes under Altman. There's no more Humphrey to take up minutes as SG or SF and plus Wilson would more than likely benefit from not having so many shots being jacked up by Porter. The shot distribution would have been a lot better. As for who we have left, this season might be longer than the last 2 since now there is no clear cut perimeter shooter. Armstead was okay at times, but couldn't be counted on for long periods of time. Longmire and Williams don't strike fear in anyone except when driving the ball so defenses can just sit back and watch them attempt perimeter shots. Sim has just tanked it the last 2 years shooting-wise so I'm not really sure how he'll do under a new coaching system.Boom wrote:To the people who think EJ was so much better than Jamil...... Re: Jamil Wilson transferring?
hopefully this summer someone emerges with Help from
Altman and staff as a shooter. I know they are working
on shooting with players. something it didn't appear Kent did
much of. Just trying to be optimistic and hopeful.

The ones that would probably benefit the most from an off-season of actual coaching on shooting would be Sim, Armstead, and Williams.duckfan22 wrote:hopefully this summer someone emerges with Help from
