To consistently win in a conference like the MVC and make the NCAA Tournament almost every year shows he's a good coach. Although he never got out of the first round, his teams were always competitive and were never blown out of their games.dthomas=ddixon wrote:I don't think you can deny that Altman is a good coach. What I am looking forward to, the most, by far, is actually seeing PLAYS in the half court offense. Inside-out ball movement. Screening. An "offense" that creates shots.
I won't miss: passing the ball around the 3 point line for 30 seconds, and whoever ends up with the hot-potato, tosses it up there, or then plays 1-on-1 and chucks it.
Looking forward to seeing the new arena and some new style of basketball.

30 seconds isnt an offense. Big men flash to the hole wide
open no ball, isnt an offense. creating shots in an offense will
definitely be different that's for sure.

Most people probably won't know what's happening when Oregon actually runs some offensive sets that work.duckfan22 wrote:couldn't have been said better. Re: Who's even on the team anymore?
UO could surprise next year. We have 4 returning starters, have 7 guys who have played significant minutes coming back. I also don't think people aren't giving Armstead enough credit, I really think he can thrive if a coach shows that he is confident in him. With Singler, Jacobs and Dunnigan, we have as much talent down low as we have had in the last 10 years ( I know that's not saying much, but it's a start). Plus I think Catron will give us solid production off the bench with this being his SR year.
Do I think this is a NCAA tourney team? I wish, but I don't think so this year. I do think they can make a serious run at 19 wins and end up in the NIT given that the Pac-10 will be just as poor as it was last year. The only teams I see as NCAA in the Pac right now is UW and maybe ASU. UCLA has a great coach and on paper should make it, but they were just bad (and I mean terrible) last year. Arizona, maybe gets in but I don't thinks they are there yet.
Really Altman is walking into the Pac-10 at the right time, for as bad as UO was, the majority of the Pac-10 is just as bad. He inherits a team that won 16 games last year, and there is no reason we can't sweep WSU and spit with OSU, Stanford, UA, USC (could sweep them), UW and UCLA. Cal is rebuilding so a spit is possible with them. I think this team could finish with 8-9 wins in conference and should be able to get 10 wins in the pre season. But even if we get to 20-21 wins that's still not enough right now to get us into the tourney.

THIS argument again... Cool.
For everyone who is bitching, congrats on figuring out that the EK firing was not intended for short-term success. It was to give our program a future that was better than bleak. Now move on.

A lot of things can happen with a team where the coach preaches details through his X's and O's. Good game coaching can sew up a lot of holes.
I'm not putting any expectations on this team whatsoever. I'll be at every home game, enjoying watching them play.
Looking forward to it, a lot. Especially in MK Arena.
Go Ducks.

Can we afford to play EJ down low? I think Dunigan, Jacob, Catron, and Nared are going to have to make do. You've got Armstead and Loyd at the 1, Teondre and Sim at the 2, and LeKendric and EJ at the 3.

Re: Who's even on the team anymore?
EJ can play down low or at the 3 if need be. It all depends on the game and foul situations. There are times when EJ may have an advantage over certain PFs where someone like Nared, in his first season of D1 BB, may not be able to handle. I do think that more likely than not EJ will be at SF due to depth issues.oregontrack wrote:Can we afford to play EJ down low? I think Dunigan, Jacob, Catron, and Nared are going to have to make do. Re: Who's even on the team anymore?
That's essentially my line of thought. I think his minutes at the 4 will be very, very limited given the lack of depth.
Armstead/Loyd/Sim
Teondre//LeKendric/Sim
EJ/LeKendric
Jacob/Catron/Nared
Dunigan/Jacob
I hate LeKendric playing the 2, but depending what we get from Sim this year, meh. He might need to.
