Jamere Holland
Sorry, I would have posted this on the main board, but the MB gets little traffic, and I'd love to here some thoughts on this:
Do you guys think he'll pick up where Terrence Scott left off? He's got the speed and athleticism, but his biggest problem this season was getting his head out of the clouds and learning the playbook, do you think he'll be up to full speed next year and what do u think we can expect from him?

I believe we will see more of him getting PT than he did in 08. He can provide us deep threat like 1 play at hoilday bowl. Cant wait to see masoli throw long bomb to Holland for td!

I agree with Chump. I think by the Holiday Bowl Holland had dug himself out of the proverbial doghouse and was becoming a bigger part of the offense. I"m excited to see him on the field this year. Will be interesting to see what's said during spring ball.

I for one will post that my opinion of Holland is low as are my expectations for him. I think his work ethic is not that of a Maehl or Harper and they will surpass him. Combined with Tuinei and Gaines (fingers crossed) coming on board. I honestly don't expect a lot from him. Having said that, should he break out and have a stellar year. I'll gladly post how I was wrong and be content with the results.

Re: Jamere Holland
Are we recruiting him again? This isn't a recruiting thread. This part of the board is already too cluttered.

Re: Jamere Holland
It came out either right before the Civil war or right after that CK and MB sat him down and had a talk with him a couple weeks before the civil war and told him that he needed to decide to focus fully on the football team and give it full effort or maybe he needed to move on and try something else as he wasn't giving it his all...They said after the talk he fully engulfed himself in football and the team and thats why he ended up playing and contributing in both the civil war and the Holiday Bowl...He has since started to workout with the T&F team which he said he wasn't going to do after transferring from SC so I think he's come full circle and I expect amazing things from him this next year and am very excited for it.

If he can remain healthy and learn the playbook, he can be really good. Basically he can be as good as he wants to be. The question is though is he willing to do the work? That I don't know because he has shown in the past that he isn't.

If this is the case it's great news. He's the speed and talent to be an absolute stud if he develops the attitude to match!

As a former knuckle head myself I will wait and reserve judgement. Anybody can show an effort in short spurts. the real test of change is weather he makes it stick. Spring should answer a lot of questions.alabamaduck wrote:pudgejeff wrote:It came out either right before the Civil war or right after that CK and MB sat him down and had a talk with him a couple weeks before the civil war and told him that he needed to decide to focus fully on the football team and give it full effort or maybe he needed to move on and try something else as he wasn't giving it his all...They said after the talk he fully engulfed himself in football and the team and thats why he ended up playing and contributing in both the civil war and the Holiday Bowl...He has since started to workout with the T&F team which he said he wasn't going to do after transferring from SC so I think he's come full circle and I expect amazing things from him this next year and am very excited for it.

And I agree with jhop here. There's a reason guys like him and Derrick Jones never made it big at USC. Both are lazy. Derrick Jones did pretty good for us, but eventually got kicked off the team. I'm hoping Holland has a great year, but I wouldn't rely on him at all. He could get in trouble, or he could just flat out have a bad year.

Re: Jamere Holland
It's tough to predict what will happen with Holland. All I know is that we need at least one of our receivers to step up next season and be a "go to" receiver if possible.

Re: Jamere Holland
I know his and Derrick's situations seem alike since they both first committed to SC...but they are very very different...Derrick didn't go to SC because he wasn't academically eligible, Derrick got into continuous trouble while he was here and was in the end let go...Jamere got into school fine...Hurt his collar bone while he was there and felt like he never got a fair shake at a spot afterwards so he asked for and got a transfer release from an academic committee after Petey said no...He hasn't been in trouble one time since he's been here but just never seemed to get things going with the team...I think to compare his situation to Derrick's is unjust and although I agree it's too early to say he's gonna be great I think it's also to early to hold reservations due to what Derrick did.

That's a fair point, I've never really thought about it but I guess in my mind I've sort of compared Holland to Jones and you're right they're different situations

This is completely spot on! I think Holland is unlikely to contribute really any significant amount of offense during his duck career... Don't call me negaduck, but I just have a feeling that will be the outcome.

Re: Jamere Holland
holland is the fastest guy in the state of oregon. if you think he will not do well u a sorely mistaken. think of him as a freshman this year learning the game getting used to the speed once he does he will be one of the top wr in the pac 10. i saw some spurts in the bowl game and cw if he is workin out watchin film he will start on the outside. guys like maehl and ap work real hard and all that but not great size or speed. what they are "good at" is catching the ball which maehl did not seem to do on a regular bases. and pflu dropped some balls to but the ones he did catch he so slow and small that he doesnt do ne thing with it after. now i like maehl but i would take holland on my team over him ne day off the week simply cause of the difference in speed and athleticism
