See I think this kid has Measurables that most 2 Star kids dont have. I mean 6'4 190 runs a 4.47 40. That is some good stuff. Learn to catch and he could be a solid receiver down the line. Sounds like a very coachable and smart kid. Most of proved something to get a scholarship offer. This also isnt some sort of sign towards not getting Gaines or Jackson. Cause as a project he will not be taking time from them.

You do make a good point of kissing up and to the other extreme of "we didn't want/need him anyways". I can get caught up in that as well but his video actually did surprise me and I would have thought he'd at least be a solid 3 star after watching it. IYAM I think he would be a better WR prospect then Adam Hall who is much higher rated.

I'm just not going to say that every recruit Oregon gets will turn into a stud, because that's unrealistic. Sometimes I get the feeling Oregon could sign Joe the Plumber and a lot of people on this board would say that with Kelly at the helm, Joe could lose weight, develop speed and turn into a real find. Also, to go from someone like Boyd or even James Johnson to this guy is frustrating.

I say why the hell not? Smart kid, seems very athletic and i am quite sure the coaches have a plan! I have to believe they seen something in this kid to give him a offer, maybe he's another Jordan Kent?

He looked good from an athlete standpoint so as far what position he turns into well we won't know for a few years. But measurement wise I like him, offer wise there are definitely questions about him so lets just hope in a few years we can say I can't belief only Northern Iowa and us were the only ones to offer him!

They way recruiting has gone and as far as we know we have offers to give considering we didn't get a few guys we wanted, so we can take a chance or two with a few recruits...

Hey man, I don't have to gush with everyone else and love every recruit. Whether people want to admit it or not, this is a strange commit. People wonder why Oregon doesn't get to bcs games, and this is one reason why. Top teams just don't settle with fallback options. I'm a diehard duckfan and I want Oregon to get the best players possible, and a player going from Northern Iowa to Oregon just doesn't do it for me. Call me a negaduck if you want, but that's just my opinion. I never said I hope he sucks at Oregon.

Ok Mr Kiss up. There have been plenty of recruits for Oregon this year that I have liked. I don't care if I'm well liked on this board. Unlike you, I share what I'm really feeling.

It's frustrating to lose out on Boyd and possibly Johnson also, but temper some your negative energy... In recruiting like everything else there's risk and reward, YES Boyd and Johnson both seem to have more upside because some fat guy with a clipboard and a stopwatch liked them better.. We've had plenty of so called lower rated players become big contribitors while having guys like Cam Colvin do virtually nothing... again, I offer let's discuss this class in 4-5 years...

That's cool, but ask yourself this question: Is this guy the best Oregon do with a wr or qb? If you answered yes, you have low expectations. I don't think the current class is bad. It's good, but disappointing at the same time. I think that's fair.

The kid placed second in the High Jump (6'5... Decent for a high schooler), won the Triple Jump (46'9 1/2" ... Again decent, not spectacular), and placed 3rd in the 110 m high hurdles.
That speaks volumes about his athleticism.

Regardless of the offers we see, the ESPN site shows his schools of interest to include Iowa, Kansas State, Nebraska, Oregon, and our recent bowl opponent, Oklahoma State.

Rivals.com lists him as the #10 player in Nebraska, and the only QB on that list... (And I realize Nebraska is not exactly a hotbed of QB sizzle)

Hawkins transferred from Millard North to Central after his freshman year. He said he wanted to become an Eagle to play for his dad, James Kight, who has coached for Central the past nine seasons. Kight is working with the wide receivers this year.

Also aiding Hawkins' transition as a starter behind center this fall will be the personal workout he did this summer with renowned quarterbacks coach Steve Clarkson in Pasadena, Calif. Clarkson worked with NFL starters Matt Leinart and Ben Roethlisberger throughout their prep careers. Hawkins also attended camps at Oregon State and Stanford this summer.

"(Clarkson) said I was good at throwing on the run and doing it naturally," Hawkins said. "He said I make it look pretty easy, and it's one of the harder things to do in the game."

Hawkins is confident that he can now run the 40 faster than the 4.47 seconds he clocked as a junior.


Might be less of a gamble than some of us think.
