Re: Blazers Talk
I wish games started earlier. I tried to watch the game last night on ESPN but had to go to bed at half-time because it was midnight already. This is why there is an east coast bias.
I miss the crazy Portland crowds at Blazer games. When I lived in NY I saw the knicks and nets play a lot and both the Garden and the craphole nets stadium in Jersey. Those places were so quiet. It was really weird to go to games there after having only been to Blazer games in Portland prior to that.
The crowd really is special in Portland. Wish I was there.

Has Aaron Brooks ever had a better game? Wow. Luckily for the Blazers, it's just one game.

Re: Blazers Talk
Is he really worth 7 mil a year?...we could have used that cap room for a deal near the deadline to pick up somebody that some team wanted of their cap...He shoots terribly from 3 and we need that from our PG...just cause his stats are better last year doesn't mean he was, just that he was asked to do more which is Blake is not because of all the people we have including Brandon running the point a lot...It's a terrible move...He's gonna end up being the back-up which means we're paying out back-up PG 7 mil for the next 2 years

Re: Blazers Talk
$7 million a year is not a lot of money for a starting caliber point guard, particularly when it is a short deal (2 years with a team option for the 3rd year). The Blazers offered more than that to Millsap to be their backup power forward. Miller has started his entire career and been one of the most consistent and durable point guards in the league during that time. He is coming off a playoff series against a good Orlando team in which he played well (averaging 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists), so there is no evidence his game is in rapid decline. This seems like a pretty low risk move and it unquestionably upgrades the point rotation. It isn't like the Blazers had to trade Blake to get Miller. Blake will still be there to provide outside shooting when the circumstances and matchups call for it.
A point guard rotation of...
Andre Miller / Steve Blake / Jerryd Bayless
is much better than a point guard rotation of...
Steve Blake / Jerryd Bayless
Your point about the Blazers being better served to save the $7 million in cap space in order to potentially make a lopsided trade at the deadline is a reasonable and debatable one. It is possible the Blazers might have been able to make a trade using that strategy and it would have improved the team more than the addition of Miller, but there are no guarantees of that. As was the case at the trade deadline last year, teams are wanting the Blazers to include their good young players (Batum, Rudy, etc.) in these lopsided financial trades and the Blazers are not willing to do it. Thus, the Blazers took the sure thing and improved the team by adding Miller now, rather than just hoping to make a killer trade in the future.

Re: Blazers Talk
7 million is a bargain for a PG of Dre Miller's caliber. The awesome thing is it's only a 3 year deal. Much better than a 7-9mil/5 year deal, which is what we were looking to pay others.pudgejeff wrote:Is he really worth 7 mil a year?...we could have used that cap room for a deal near the deadline to pick up somebody that some team wanted of their cap...He shoots terribly from 3 and we need that from our PG...just cause his stats are better last year doesn't mean he was, just that he was asked to do more which is Blake is not because of all the people we have including Brandon running the point a lot...It's a terrible move...He's gonna end up being the back-up which means we're paying out back-up PG 7 mil for the next 2 years
We don't need Miller to shoot from the outside. Having a guard who can create inside is exactly what we need. Blake, Rudy, Martel, etc., are the shooters. Miller is going to open a whole new world in terms of offense.
And the best thing about Miller is his Defense. we finally have a PG that can play some hard ass defense.

Re: Blazers Talk
Arent Outlaw and Blake's contracts expiring after this year? they seem like prime pieces to be moved at the deadline.
From what i understand, which is very little, a lot of nba teams are hurting financially. As such, there is a strong possibility some teams will be willing to do just about anything to stay out of the luxury tax this year.
I was kinda iffy on the Miller signing at first...then i remembered what he did to us in the two games we faced him this year.
I think somebody may have already mentioned this..but this stat really pops out at me.
Miller FTA: 409
Blake FTA: 75
The amount of pressure Miller will put on defenses i think will offset the downgrade in three point shooting at the position, hopefully.
Its also nice to have another guy on the roster who could occasionally explode for a 25-30 pt night.

Re: Blazers Talk
Blazers have been looking awful in the pre-season. Roy is playing like a bench player.
I hope this doesn't continue
