Or it could be just the opposite. He could be stepping down now because he has someone in place. I just find it hard to believe that MB would leave the basketball situation half finished. I doubt ESPN was wanting him to step down right this minute. College football is a good ways away.

Yeah you're right, I'm just trying to spin it positive haha. I'm not sure if MB leaving hurts or helps our coaching search. We'll find out I guess.

It's the present tense that catches my attention. It makes me wonder if Kilkenny's been "active" on this task for a little awhile already.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has. I bet he's contacted Few already about the job.
I was told 6 weeks ago Pat was actively involved, but at that time top targets were Few and Tubby. It looks like someone has stepped up with more $, considering the names involved. It is also possible given the current economy, that other factors are involved in either coaches job security / or athletic department security that makes a well funded program like ours appealing. Such as Louisville, not a huge football base for example and needless to say
michigan is in really bad shape for funding especially a state school, like MSU, hence Isso now in play. Perhaps Interest by others have spurred a broader reach than just Few and Smith, now that Kent being gone is official. Bellotti's most important act before going, firing Kent. Hiring someone and then annoucing he was leaving would have been bad. Maybe we have a couple of probably intersested high profile coaches, that just need to work out the big contract with the new, or interim AD. And ofcourse wait until they are out of the dance before they can even sit down with said coach. So maybe the perfect time for Bellotti to leave. Fire Kent, line up some high profile canidates and let the new AD work out the contract. Here is for shooting for the moon.

not sure why pitino keeps getting mentioned. he's probably not gonna coach for too much longer and he's got no reason to leave louisville. don't forget that they're building a $250M+ new arena opening next year and that he's been in kentucky for basically the last 15 to 20 years or so except for his short stint in the nba. he wouldn't leave for zona last year in the midst of his scandal, so what makes ppl think he'll leave this year? i guess i'm also directing that question to oregon's staff if he's considered a "target".
Definitely no Few since his team just got smoked by Syracuse by 20+. Randy Bennett is looking more appealing now. Let's see how Dixon, Turgeon, and Izzo do.

i'm rooting against Pitt so they're done and we can find out sooner if Dixon wants the job
Pitino is being mentioned because he has become second in the pecking order of basketball coaches and with his off-court issues with he is looking to get out of dodge before he loses his safety guys there.
Look for Pitino to go to the Nets in the NBA however. He gets #1 pick (John Wall, Evan Turner, or Wes Johnson), Devin Harris, Brock Lopez, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Courtney Lee, and Yi while having a max contract amount in cap space. The Nets could field a team of Harris, Turner, Douglas-Roberts, Bosh, Lopez and instantly become a top 5 team in the east with good coaching.
I do know there is interest in Pitino though on Oregon's end.
