New QB?

I'm going to guess that if Hawkins sees the field, it won't be as a qb. Remember that we also have Doman who would play qb if we really needed it. Plus, I would imagine that we still take at least 1 qb in the 2010 class, right? Maybe Hawkins can excel on special teams or something.

That's what I'm thinking. I think this is a long, athletic kid that could be made into a WR. I don't think he will see time at the QB position.

I donno...I haven't heard anyone else saying it but this kid just screams safety to me...Reminds me alot of Javes Lewis...But he looks to have better speed and be more athletic...And also he's a great student...With the new APR we have to also take kids that are gonna stay in school and graduate or we're gonna start losing scholarships...We've been under for a few years now...And you have to remember Frost was a defensive coach at Northern Iowa and everyone's been saying we need another safety on the roster...I for one love this pick-up

I wish some of you could come sit with me during practices. I'd take your cheat sheets away that have the names by the jersey numbers, and then see if you could tell me who are the 1* and walk on recruits and who are the 4 and 5* guys. My 5 year old would have just as much luck guessing.

I hear ya, but 6' 4" is really pushing the limit for size for safety. Brian Erlacker (how was that for a sp butcher?) was a huge safety early on in his career though....

That's the point, Pudge. The studs often are not aligned with the stars.

Fall practice is when you first get to chuckle at how over-hyped most of these kids are or how far they have to go to live up to their press.

I know...that was my point too...The coaches watch and can tell...But they're gonna go look at the high star kids first but just because they have stars doesn't mean they're convinced and just because they don't doesn't mean they don't see something...And by the way 1 star means they haven't been evaluated yet

This guy has the measurements and speed to fit a lot of spots...S, WR, QB, OLB we will know more in about 1-2 years! I like the fact that he has 4.47 speed as a junior and now we just have to wait to see how he fills out...

If teams could have nothing but 6' 4" safeties, they would. It's not the size that prevents those guys from playing the position, it's the fluidity with which they move. Smaller guys, on average, are much quicker in and out of breaks. Additionally, guys that size are often more valuable at other positions, such as WR. But yeah, it's not his height that would necessarily rule him out as a safety.

I say he gets a good long look at QB and perhaps ends up at WR.

We probably do need more depth at qb, its not clear if Costa will ever be healthy, whether Roper is a good fit, harper may not ever become an everydown qb, and we also want to redshirt Thomas in the next couple of years. So adding another kid that can develop into a solid dual-threat backup is probably agood thing, lets just hope the coaches know what there doing.
