Well this NSD looks like a mini-s*** storm, but the silver lining is that Herbert doesn't need 5* targets to throw at. He'll make guys like Tucker, Hall, Crocker, Webb, etc. look like all-americans. I'm not so worried about that. Nice to get highly rated wide receivers, but we'll be more than fine with anyone that can run a route and catch a pass.
And the truth is that we're not gonna beat USC in head to head battles. We'll win one for every eight or nine they take. It's telling that we're still talking about Armstead and DAT, when they take multiple guys from us every single year. Can't be mad. They're an elite program at an elite academic state school, in Los Angeles.
The bottom line is that it will f*cking suck if we land none of Sewell, Williams, Ezeike, etc. etc., but it's sounding more and more like that might be the case. We still have the best QB in the conference, a lot of young, exciting players coming back, and a fantastic crop of young players already signed for next year. It really isn't all bad.

Quit using logic. You know it's recruiting time.Kyle's Brother wrote:Well this NSD looks like a mini-s*** storm, but the silver lining is that Herbert doesn't need 5* targets to throw at. I understand losing recruits to USC, but we also lost recruits to Notre Dame and Ole Miss. Ole Miss is still in the midst of a two year bowl ban.dthomas=ddixon wrote:Blaming a brand new staff for losing recruits to USC is a bit much. Every staff ever at Oregon has had that issue. Chip sort of bucked that trend but guys like DAT and Armstead were anomalies. It will suck if all those guys sign with SC but blaming Cristobal isn't really fair.
I'll even give Cristobal a pass on that. But they failed to come up with fall back options. I'll withhold my disappointment and hope for a big surprise tomorrow, but if things go according to form this will be a major failure for him.

They left nearly 20 visits unused because they got a bit too confident on a small set of guys. Now many of those are potentially headed elsewhere and Oregon is left with minimal options to fill those spots. I know they wanted to save some scholarships for 2019 but you still need enough players for depth purposes, something that could rear its head should some injuries occur at certain spots (namely DL, WR, TE, and CB.) We all saw how that went this past year when they played with under 75 scholarship players and had to use a bunch of walk-ons to fill in the depth chart when injuries started popping up.

Tucker will never see the field while Herbert is qbKyle's Brother wrote:Well this NSD looks like a mini-s*** storm, but the silver lining is that Herbert doesn't need 5* targets to throw at. They could have had 25 WRs they like better than Tucker if they'd pursued them but they thought they had battle, Williams, maybe more
I think it's fair to put that on the coaches

It is hit and missdamascusduck wrote:Did you even read the article? The 2008 class was ranked #22 and was their best class. The 2010 class was one of the highest ranked and as the author said, flamed put in epic fashion. It's hit and miss. You want get as many good players as you can, but you don't really know what you have until they put on the pads in college....Taggart left the staff in a tough spot. All things considered, they have done very well.Duckenstein wrote:That is a sobering articlegreenyellow wrote:You just have to look at the average class rankings and see that Oregon has been trending towards barely the top-20 ever since Chip left.Duckenstein wrote:Yeah like we are second rate just like during the latter Helf daysgreenyellow wrote:Potentially losing so many guys to USC is making this feel like I imagine how Arizona fans felt after losing so many of their recruits to Oregon last year: frustrated.
This program has a ways to go, it fell further than we thought

Wow. Ugo Amadi as the best player from the 15 class. Huh.
I hope we can get back to those 10-15 ranked classes because the 15-30 ranked classes were terrible

The staff has retained 50% of the class. Is that doing very well? I'd say it's a wash
As I've said multiple times, I'm willing to give them lots of slack. But if they miss on Williams and Sewell it will say a lot IMO

I’m not following... Foles was a QB at AZ.pezsez1 wrote:Hard to compare Chris Peterson and Cristoball though. Peterson was a high-profile known commodity. Heck, even on Sunday, when Nick Foles caught that TD pass, the announcers were screaming "Boise State!"
Cristoball has no identity yet. When he gets one, then he'll close.

Disagree 1000%. He's the head coach. He needs to close on at least 1-2 guys. Peterson does it. chip does it. Hell, even Mike B would do it once in awhile.dthomas=ddixon wrote:Blaming a brand new staff for losing recruits to USC is a bit much. Every staff ever at Oregon has had that issue. Curious why we haven't offered Andre Hunt...?

They were referencing Boise State's trick plays against Oklahoma. Like, the play the Eagles just ran is like something Chris Peterson's Boise State team would have done.I’m not following... Foles was a QB at AZ.

One major recruiting guy said he's a receiver who couldn't even catch a cold. Oregon's (and many others) likely saw the same thing and stopped recruiting him early.pdxduck2013 wrote:Curious why we haven't offered Andre Hunt...?

I'm going to wait and see how we finish tomorrow before I get too critical of the staff, but if it's bad, this will exactly be the problem. Not using trips. Not having back-ups. Not being able to read the kids who you think are committing. All major errors. Course if things go well, it will all be moot.greenyellow wrote:They left nearly 20 visits unused because they got a bit too confident on a small set of guys. Half of me wonders if all the drama was concocted in a smokey back room to generate traffic?

Re: Can’t find the other post. Who do ducks finish with?
Think it was more sources going cold with those close to the recruits who have information, which resulted in a bit of a blackout in information and made people think something was up. Considering Tucker still hasn't gotten an offer, seems the staff is thinking they can still pull in two of their upper-tier WRs.
