You don't have to be thrilled about him signing, but I'd give the coaches a little credit. Stars never meant that much, a player in 2007 from BC named Trey Henderson had offers from WSU and Akron as a two star, then he gets an offer from USC and all of a sudden he was a three star.

People have already listed a bunch of two star guys with few offers that have worked out great for us, and the line between being truly deserving of 2 stars and truly deserving of 4 stars is probably thinner than you may think. What has me most excited about this recruit: His numbers are good enough to make us wonder what position he will even play.... I think we got a good one.

I hear ya, but 6' 4" is really pushing the limit for size for safety. Brian Erlacker (how was that for a sp butcher?) was a huge safety early on in his career though....
If teams could have nothing but 6' 4" safeties, they would. It's not the size that prevents those guys from playing the position, it's the fluidity with which they move. Smaller guys, on average, are much quicker in and out of breaks. Additionally, guys that size are often more valuable at other positions, such as WR. But yeah, it's not his height that would necessarily rule him out as a safety.

I say he gets a good long look at QB and perhaps ends up at WR.
I am not sure I get your point of "If teams could have nothing but 6' 4" safeties, they would" Why not just say if teams could have nothing but 7' 0" safeties they would too. What does that mean?

Off of an NFL information site "The average size of an NFL strong safety is approximately 6'1", 215, give or take an inch and 5 pounds."

The NFL can have whoever they want to play the position. I will say it again, 6' 4" is a little tall for a safety. It just dosent work well.

I mean exactly what I said. If teams could have larger safeties, they would. It's not their height that is the problem. I am fully aware what the average size of a safety is. I'm not disputing that. My point is that it's not about height. It's about ability and availability. Indeed, if a team could add several inches to all their safeties without losing an ounce of their ability, they'd do it every time. Height/range alone is a positive and relevant attribute for safeties and most other positions in the game of football.

From now on, I'm going to ignore posts like this. There is absolutely no excuse for the personal attack. If you had bothered to read my last post on this thread before this one, all I said was that I don't expect him to be a qb at Oregon. If that really upsets you, then you shouldn't be on this board.

The kid has potential and is excited to be a Duck. Sounds good to me.

Obviously this kid a talented kid who was very overlooked. Frost knew how good this kid is & brought him with him to the Ducks. I'd trust his judgemnet over any messege board/recruiting site "expert".

Neither Mays nor Taylor are (were) near 6' 5"

Taylor was listed at 6' 2" and Mays is listed at 6' 3"

Just to clarify, the 2 of the 3 he was referring to were Mays and Taylor.
