Wasn’t Dickerson committed to Minnesota in the first place, where Chance had recruited him? Dickerson was offered by Minnesota right after Chance got hired as their DB coach. That is pretty much the opposite of getting a recruit calling you while you’re golfing because some high school coach gave him the wrong phone number.

Yeah, Chance had a relationship with him already. This happens with lots of coaches who switch schools. There is always a player or two who follow said coach.

Thomas Graham and Deommodore Lenoir have been on twitter pumping up Donte Williams (at USC now) recently. Not a good look and definitely not helpful for Rod Chance.

Not a good look, but what is your beef with Chance? Donte was their position coach, and they dug him. Fine. Graham and Lenoir better make a NFL roster, or their position will be moot.

Criticism doesn't equal beef.

In this case, not even criticism. Just pointing out the obvious that former duck players posing for photos putting up the trojan 'fight on' sign and commenting that Donte Williams is the best DB coach in college is a bad look for Rod Chance.

Guys like their former position coach even after he left for a higher paying job and promotion back in their hometown? This is almost as bad as former Oregon WRs tweeting about how important Chris Petersen was to them, despite him being the UDub coach at the time.

Donte Williams is the hottest recruiter in the country and one of, if not the best, overall recruiters. People like him. We benefited from having him. It’s easier for him to negative recruit. Rod Chance is bringing in some nice pieces, we got two of the top 13 CBs in the country in his first year. The CBs were the best part of the defense last year.

And donte williams when left unchecked will fill the roster with as many CBs and S's as he can. This will hurt them massively in the next several years and there will be many many transfers from this jokingly unbalanced team. I am absolutely fine with what's going on. PS-- Look at USC's current class. There are two players on that list that are even remotely interesting. (and one is a DB. .

So, he may be a good guy. Players may love him, but right now, it looks like everything is about him and not the team. The Ducks are the opposite. It's all about the team, the program, the university etc. Go Ducks.

Graham also didn't play in 2020, so he never even played for Chance.

Lenoir left and came back, so he had 3 years with Donte vs 3 months (in quarantine/zoom) with Chance.

I actually like this. Guys should stay in contact with their coaches. It was a major tip off at Willie's introductory Oregon press conference when he responded to a question of his players at USF with: "I'm not their coach anymore, why would I be in contact with them".

Showing support for your old coach, even if he's at a new school now, is ok. But putting up the trojan fight on sign in pics, is idiotic or disloyal. (Haven't seen that picture before)

Chance was on the staff while both Lenoir and Graham were players before he left to go to Minnesota. Wasn't their position coach, but definitely an opportunity to build a relationship.

Let me give a comparison. I think all members here who peruse twitter saw that the staff brought in Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner recently on a weekend where they hosted some high profile recruits. Now, what if it wasn't Oregon who did that, but instead their college position coach, UCLA's Jerry Azzinaro, and their head coach Chip Kelly. Would you agree that "isn't a good look"? In that example, Cristobal (or whoever on staff) did something wise and built that relationship well to make sure the success those guys are having in the NFL is a recruiting tool for the Ducks, not someone else, even if their college coaches were on a different staff now.

Looks to me, like Lenoir is giving a peace sign and Graham is just pointing his index finger. I think we're looking way too far into this stuff. They had a relationship with the guy, happened to be in LA and visited him. They also retweeted something in support of a ranking that had him as the number 1 CB coach in the nation, but I'm not really too worried about the whole thing. I don't see celebrating their old coach as simultaneously bagging on Chance.

that is definitely not the fight on. So much made about nothing.

I'm not really sure what folks are arguing. Do you not believe it's not "not a good look"?

So if Buckner and/or Armstead comes out and says UCLA DL coach > Oregon DL coach, you'd say that's a good look (or "not not a good look")?

I just went back to Graham's tweets and my lord that guy tweets a lot, but the relevant parts are that he retweeted a list of top DB coaches which features Donte Williams and hyped him up, followed by retweeting someone else saying that Donte is #1 (aka, better than Chance).

I don't disagree with anybody on understanding why. No shame on Graham. But it's definitely (in my opinion) a good idea for the new guy to build a relationship with those ex-players so their his recruiting asset and not someone else's.
