They are a veteran offense everywhere but running back. If they want to use Ward as their primary runner, adding a few zone/read plays is no big deal. They have been a zone blocking team for years on the O-Line so it is really as simple for them as adding a few new plays to their base offense.

The problem I see is that it takes an immense amount of discipline and familiarity of when and how to keep/hand off in the zone read. Anyone inexperienced it or just trying to splash a little zone read is asking for trouble.

I don't know about this move for the Beavs either. Zyme brings up a good point about familiarity, and buying into a new offense. Take UCLA for example, they tried to employ Nevada's pistol offense and they were rarely in-sync last season...it's a tough process to switch offenses. If the Beavs make the change, they need to commit to it fully.

Well to continue playing the devils advocate in this thread.
Dennis Dixon picked up Kelly's version of the zone read in about 3 weeks of fall camp after playing baseball in the summer.
Stanford ran it a few plays every game last year with tremendous results.
Oregon State already plays a lot of spread and uses zone blocking so throwing in a few QB option plays is not a big deal, particularly with a QB who ran the ball some in high school and was recruited by Kelly for the Ducks.
Washington will be running it some too.
-------------------------------
Riley is talking about running some plays by the way like Stanford did, not switching over the whole offense like UCLA did trying to adopt the Pistol.

Dixon did have more than 3 weeks to run it since Chip put the offense in place during spring practices. As for OSU running it, as long it doesn't become their base offense, then the zone read handoffs and reads shouldn't be too much of a problem.

It's a gimmick and won't work/last... and that's why Quizz is so much better than LaMike will ever be.
PS, QBs get hurt way too often in that gimmick configuration.

And no recruit will want to play it because it doesn't prepare you for the pros. And and and Wille Lyles and ummm Cal has figured it out now it won't work anymore and ......

I was clowning on them. Not being too serious!

And that's why they run drills in practice... Honestly I think one of the reasons our offense is so effective is because it's significantly easier to execute than most offenses.
