I'm sorry, that was bad info as a result of me half listening to the radio at my desk...he said the offer was a sincere one, refused to give an amount, but said that the amount that was floating around was just a rumor along with the talks of him speaking to Jerry Jones.

Not really. What if he took them up on their offer and they said "oh it was just to f with LSU, we didn't really want you." They where serious, it had nothing to do with getting more money out of LSU.

Why? It's a win win for Arkansas. If he accepts, they have a great coach and instant relevance. If he gets a raise from LSU, it is forcing them to stretch their budget even more.

I guess what he is saying is, their intent had to of been to get him as a head coach not to make LSU spend money, because giving him an offer to coach for them is a serious thing, its not like they can say "i just keeding...it was a conspiracy to make your university to spend more money."

Now I guess it is possible that they saw it as a win-win on multiple levels, one of which I guess could of been to force LSU to use more of the budget to keep Les but I fail to see how making them spend more money on a coach would help Arky in anyway.

It is more likely they figured if he came back with a "no" it would in the least show other "big names" that they want a elite coach and have some deep pockets to get him.

Raising the standard and pay on LSU's coach only raises the standard (and wages) for them in finding a good coach.

Does anyone think it would matter to Phil Knight and the other boosters if Cal called and offered Chip a million more a year? No, they would pay it, because they want to win and not think twice about it.
