Re: hey look, a seattle mariners 2013 thread!
Spot on. the m's not only brought in ibanez, but kendrys morales, too. That DH/1B crowd is very, very crowded.
I loved jaso. Not only was he insanely clutch, he was probably seattle's best bat last year, and certainly the most patient. There's a reason the A's, a much smarter franchise, were so eager to get him. Jaso was also under team control for another 3 years, morse is in his walk year.
morse is very injury prone, and maybe the worst defensive outfielder in baseball. Great to have in safeco!

2B dustin ackley
CF franklin gutierrez
C Geez montero
1B kendrys morales
RF michael morse
DH raul ibanez
3B kyle seager
LF michael saunders
SS brendan ryan
just a rough outline. some things:
1. there is no earthly way you can have morse and ibanez both play the outfield together. ideally, you wouldn't have either. but they only allow one DH and all...
2. no justin smoak in my line-up, but...
3. there is a franklin gutierrez sighting. Z has hinted that guti needs to earn his job this spring, despite his contract, but if he's healthy i feel he's still worthy of a spot.
4. i have little patience for the jason bay signing.
5. skip has always liked guti at the 2-hole.
6. we have too many outfielders, but... we also don't. the ones with good bats are horrific in the field (morse, ibanez). the elite defenders (guti, saunders) have decent bats. casper wells and eric thames are probably 4th outfielders, at best. and then there's jason bay.

Replace Smoak with Morales and Morales with Ibanez and you pretty much got it. Seattle should of traded Gutierrez awhile ago, it's almost safe to say that project is dead. Imagine if they still had Adam Jones! Nice lineup right there.oregontrack wrote:2B dustin ackley

smoak needs to play his way into the lineup. i'm tired of watching four months of terrible baseball, with 6 weeks of payoff.

felix just got PAID.
m's didn't need to spend that much to keep him, but showed felix a lot of respect by doing so.

Felix LOVES Seattle. Board of Tourism might as well see if he wants to be an Ambassador, lol.

Loved to see the organization all wearing the King shirt's when Felix and his wife came out of the elevator. You could tell Felix really appreciated it as he was crying and look kinda surprised.

What!? The guy is horrible. I can bat 150 and catch the ball, maybe I should try out for the mariners. They could even pay me they league minimum.oregontrack wrote:justin smoak named the starting day 1B.

This is Smoak's last year to prove to be what he was projected to be. If he doesn't progress this year he is toast.

I know it's just spring training but mariners are 9-1 and have been scoring a lot of runs in most games. This season should be a lot more fun to watch as they made some moves and have somewhat of an offense, even Smoak has been hitting decent so far.
