Re: Marcus Lattimore
The way the Ducks run the ball, I would think the top RB prospect of every class would look hard at the Ducks.
For no other reason than Texas is closer than SC, (and we have successfully recruited there), I thought it would be Lache Seastrunk who would be the guy who goes beyond the signing date and creates a media circus while considering his options.
Lets face it, its’ going to happen every year, if not to the Ducks then to someone else. Odds are the Ducks will eventually win one of these recruiting battles.
If LaMicheal James plays anywhere near at the level of his amazing HS videos this year, (they are no longer up on Youtube), kids in Texas will take notice. He may be the single player I’m most excited about this year. Like a quicker, faster JJ, though not as strong, but that will come.
Can I make request for an article on Lache?

#1 Bryce Brown choosing somewhere else has zero bearing on whether or not Lattimore might choose Oregon.mjenk99 wrote:These exact words were said with Bryuce Brown last year on why he should come here. Johop or whoever can try and boost everyone's hopes, but realistically, we have no chance and should concentrate on the many other RB's that we have a legit shot at.wheaton4prez wrote:I think there are lots of practical reasons why Oregon is the best choice for Lattimore, amongst his list. He's facing over-loaded competition at the position at most of his options and we have the best running productivity over the last few years. Could end up boiling down to whether or not he feels comfortable with the campus and town.
Gary Campbell has done a damn good job with RBs for us, from recruiting to coaching.
#2 If Lattimore himself says that he is seriously interested in the Ducks, it is not being unrealistic to take his word for it.
#3 We landed Jonathan Stewart, who was a highly ranked, 5 star RB. He went to the NFL as a junior and has had a great start as a rookie. So, there is a precedent for Oregon landing highly ranked RB's like Lattimore and that decision turning out well for them.
#4 Recruiting Lattimore does not need to happen at the expense of recruiting any other RBs that we have a shot at.

Agree and disagree at the same time. I think we should spend most of our focus on the rb's on the west coast. As for your #2, we have had guys like Terrelle Pryor, Tahj Boyd and others say that they were seriously interested in the ducks as well. Talk is talk, action is a different story. As for your #3, Stewart was a Washington guy. Lattimore is a South Carolina guy, so I wouldn't get my hopes up. If Lattimore is interested, great, but we cannot wait around for him to make a decision and get burned in the end again.

All good points, but the real thing is, offer everyone the Ducks are interested in... On a first come, first served basis.
Don't put all your eggs in one basket, and take the first one or two quality guys who commit, regardless of where they are currently living.

The one thing about Lattimore that is different from Pryor and Brown is the Ducks offered Pryor and Brown almost right away and were allover them whereas Lattimore is the one allover the Ducks and he doesn't even have an offer.

If a recruit shows interest and we in fact share that interest, then you go after the him it that simple. You don't shy away because of last year recruiting or the year before...We recruit this guy until he chooses someone else it doesn't matter the location!

Re: Marcus Lattimore
I understand not wanting to miss on some other great RBs we are looking at. I just don't think that focus is something that you "spend" in varying amounts. You either reciprocate a recruits interest by assigning a recruiter, or you don't. I don't see any harm in having Gary Campbell have phone calls and maybe visits with Lattimore when the same can be done for the other recruits as well, at the same time.duckgrad99 wrote:Agree and disagree at the same time. True that we have had other top guys say they were interested that chose other schools. That doesn't mean that they weren't truly interested or that some future player will follow their same reasoning. When you have a run of good seasons like Oregon has lately, you have to keep pushing to make those next steps and establish a national recruiting presence. Consistently getting your targets isn't the entire equation. Being on top players final lists across the country is also cost effective marketing.
It's a fair point that Stewart was closer to home. That is a legit obstacle to over-come. However, we have done that too with an increasing number of players over the last few years.

Re: Marcus Lattimore
My guess, this guy does not come to Oregon. Percentage chance Oregon has of landing this cat = 0.01%.
I'm not trying to be a downer, just that I've been burned on too many high profile cross-country recruits of this caliber to not be realistic anymore.
Now, if Oregon wins a National Championship, then you'll see guys like this commit to the Ducks. Until then....

Re: Marcus Lattimore
Why not try? Best case: He comes to Oregon. Worst case: He doesn't come to Oregon (the same result if we don't try). Plus, our name is out there.
True, our chances might be slim but then again, they might be good. I would say don't get your hopes too high, which you shouldn't for any recruit regardless of good they are.
It sounds like he has a good relationship with not only the coach, but Jhop as well. Probably more than you can say about other schools.
Bottom line: Cross your fingers, hope for the best, and if he goes somewhere else, wish him well but hope we crush him if we meet him in the future.
Unless he goes to Tennessee. Then all bets are off.

Re: Marcus Lattimore
I talked with Marcus again this morning, He called me. He once again re-affirmed his interest in the Oregon program. I am excited to see where this goes. He may not come and I'm told he is South Carolina's to lose, but that is a school that we can match up with pretty well IMO.
Also he has called the Oregon staff this morning. Let the games begin.

Re: Marcus Lattimore
I think once he visits Eugene and has the opportunity to see the facilities and experience game day at Autzen and see Blount and the other RB's in action he will have a hard time not choosing the Ducks. Of course the distance thing is a factor but he said both him and his parents are not concerned about that. It would be cool if J Stew and JJ were able to visit while he was in town so he could be reminded of their success. One big thing is he would most likely start right away because of Oregon's depth at RB after this year.

Exactly. I take it all with a grain of salt. Our success doesn't rest on the decision of any single recruit.freedjr wrote:I would say don't get your hopes too high, which you shouldn't for any recruit regardless of good they are.

Stew and JJ wouldn't be legally allowed to talk to him if he was on a visit... Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure thats an NCAA violation.. Were not Tennessee over here, we play by the rules! ha just kidding, but you know, Snoop plays for a certain team in Carolina... hmm....
