Cal is the frontrunner right now. UF may not have much room left for him. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cal and Oregon ending up in his final three. If Gabe King goes to Cal, that could only help our chances as well.

What is the lure of Cal? They haven't been more successful than Oregon this decade. Their facilities and stadium are well below Oregon. The weather isn't much better, this is the Bay Area, not SoCal.....just frustrating seeing them getting the recruits over us.

For a kid that wants an education (and Oregon stresses academics) Cal is the top rated public university in the country.DmoneyDuck wrote:What is the lure of Cal? Besides Tedford is a pretty good coach and Cal has more players in the NFL than Oregon.

I really think by seasons end he will be the top DE in the country.
So much power and speed, and gets by guys way too easily using both.
Great player. I really hope the ducks get him

Just for clarification.....what differences would a recruit experience between and "official" and "unofficial" visit? Is the difference only between whether it is fully paid for or not? Or do official visitors also get shown more of the university. Basically is the school allowed to show the recruit everything that an official visitor would get to see, assuming he or she paid their own way to be on campus?
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

In reply to Cal's success. Their Defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi is a super recruiter. He's all of 25, so if these kids think they will go there and learn more from him than someone whos' been doing it for 20 or 30 years like Azz and others, then so be it. However if they think he is cool and really like him becuase he watches all of the same movies as them well..................
The academics don't hurt by any means.

I still say will go to USC and have said that for long time. As for Cal.It is a pretty good school and as mentioned above they send probably more players to the NFL than the ducks have. Tedford is a good coach as well. They have not been able to get over the hump and not played in any BCS bowl games in last decade if memory serves me correctly. I am by no means an insider and have no insider information but my gut feeling has always been USC with Owa. I hope I am wrong. I would much rather see him play at Cal than USC. Of course my main dream is being probably the top player in Oregon.. with no disrespect to Curtis White is that Oregon lands him.

Why Cal? Its a great school (one of the best in the nation, public), the campus is awesome, the weather is great (a LOT better than Eugene), Berkley is cool, San Fran is one of the greatest cities in the world, good coach, good program... Besides their crappy stadium (which is getting redone soon) whats NOT to like? If I were a recruit I'd have a hard time saying no to them if I had an offer...

Even as a Ducks fan, I can't even bring myself to dislike Cal. There isn't a whole lot about that school that person could hate IMO.

So true. And Tedford defecting from Oregon to there. But I do give him props for turning Cal around. They were AWFUL before he came. And as was said before, there isn't much to hate about that school or area in general.monster wrote:Besides beating us three years running.

Totally disagree
I wouldn't derail this thread unless I thought it was at least mildly important ...
Part of a rivalry is hard-fought competition. And Cal is kicking us while we're down.
We've lost three in a row, we offer a lot of the same recruits - and they're winning that battle, we're both runner-up to USC - but they're picked to finish better than we are, we both wear flashy uniforms, and now they've got some great facility upgrades in the works.
The Washington of yesteryear could be the Cal of tomorrow ...
Think about it

Cal's fans make it really easy for me to dislike the Golden Bears.

Re: Ducks still have a chance with OWA
The question was in regards to how a recruit could pick Cal, and my response had to do with how great the school is. Top academic institution in the bay area ... what's not to like?

No one is disagreeing with you... You actually provided more answers to the question "why Cal?"... Think about it.monster wrote:Totally disagree
