We're going to get some dudes next year. The in-state dudes will merely be icing on the cake.

Salu is the only one that I don't think gets an offer. The other ones, well we'll see how enthusiastic the staff is on, but I would think they're all must pursue type prospects.StevensTechU wrote:I'd echo that I'm not sure that Salu has the level of athleticism to play at the pac-12 level. I'd visit Spreen in the late spring and see how he looks physically, as my one hesitation is whether he'll every be a strong, healthy 300lber. As for the rest, I'd take every single one, with Cota and Lenzy being at the top of the list.GoDucksTroll wrote:We have somewhat of an idea of what we have and will get for 2017. I've been taking a look at 2018.
2018 looks good in San Diego, Fresno, and NorCal, which are typically strongholds for Oregon.
2018 is looking good, but next year always looks good weeks before signing day. San Diego continues to be fertile grounds. It seems like we've also fallen off in NorCal, other than Popo we've got nothing there this year and missed on some great prospects last year. Fresno does have some great talent, but BIG XII schools are out-recruiting us there lately. 2018 is certainly a good time to be on the the receiving end of the fabled first year coach recruiting bump.

Re: Current Commits, Positions & Targets
Oregon likely signs Cyrus Habibi-Likio, too, and there's still a good chance with Josh Falo even though we don't even deserve one at this point. Point being, Oregon's still very popular in NorCal, it just needs to get out of its own way. As for Fresno, after the Cliff Harris years, the ducks really backed off of the area which is what opened the door for Oklahoma. Kids there are still Duck fans, and Willie could do well there if he chooses, from everything I can tell.GoDucksTroll wrote:It seems like we've also fallen off in NorCal, other than Popo we've got nothing there this year and missed on some great prospects last year. Re: Current Commits, Positions & Targets
Here's a quick breakdown of who I think are the realistic 2018 QB targets. I apologize if I'm hi-jacking the thread, I can move it elsewhere.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Las Vegas. He's the top remaining QB in the country. This is Willie's top want for 2018, mark it down. The tea leaves were he would have committed if he received the offer that went to Yankoff. Since then his stock has soared, and will continue to do so since he's Bishop Gorman's starting QB. He's not ass, my dude. Michigan (his mother, UNLV professor Dr. Melva Thompson-Robinson is an alumnus and Michigan has been all over him) and UCLA (has been recruiting him hard forever) appear to be the teams to beat. He was Tate Martell's back-up, but this is a kid destined for stardom. This is THE 2018 QB prospect.
Colson Yankoff, Idaho. He was told his offer was still good, and promptly, but I can't fault the kid for de-committing with all the change. It will be interesting to see if he still has interest and if the staff has interest. I would be happy with Yankoff but we'll have to wait and see if it's even a possibility.
Cameron Rising, SoCal. Committed to Oklahoma, but it didn't stop Taggart from sending out an offer. Not as familiar with him as some of the other ones, he's from the same HS as Zach Okun. The offer alone makes it an interesting development.
Adrian Martinez, Fresno. Committed to Cal. He really liked Oregon and if Yankoff didn't receive an offer I would have bet he would have committed had he gotten one. With the coaching change at Cal he may be back on the market, although with Baldwin bringing his QB friendly system perhaps not. Good dual threat QB, another one to keep an eye on.
Those were the realistic options, here are some others:
Jalen Mayden, Texas. If I had to guess he has zero interest in Oregon. If his brother was here it would be another story. Really fun kid to watch, starting and dominating since his freshman year.
Dakereon Joyner, South Carolina. He's a DeShaun Watson/Marcus Mariota type. Cool as a cucumber in the pocket, with great touch and true running ability. Absolutely LOVE his game, but this seems like an unlikely pull. If you gave me a blind test showing film and not telling me who they are and where they're from this is guy I would pick.
Casey Thompson, Oklahoma. Smaller QB, great arm and can run. OU already has Rising in the fold, so I would be surprised if he went there.
Jamarye Joiner, Tucson. In my opinion the most underrated QB prospect in Pac-12 territory. Committed to Arizona. If Willie makes a move for this kid then we have to start wondering if he just straight up hates RichRod. The offense Joiner's HS runs is an exact replica of Arizona's circa 2014. We're probably shooting higher than three star QBs for 2018, but he's another guy to keep tabs on.

"Quick" breakdown?! Great information, thank you much.GoDucksTroll wrote:Here's a quick breakdown of who I think are the realistic 2018 QB targets. I apologize if I'm hi-jacking the thread, I can move it elsewhere.

Thanks. This new staff is moving at lightning speed, it's hard to keep up with, especially when compared to the previous regimes philosophy of hoarding offers like they're going to stop making them.mrpd21 wrote:"Quick" breakdown?! Great information, thank you much.GoDucksTroll wrote:
They just offered another 2018 QB, Auburn commit Joey Gatewood. He wasn't even on my radar. I have a feeling we'll see more of this, it's already late in the 2018 QB recruiting game and you have to throw some stuff out now and hope something sticks.

It's also kind of hard without a QB coach. I hope we add one in March.

Seems like we will, but adding a ST coordinator was much more important at this time.Phenom wrote:It's also kind of hard without a QB coach. I hope we add one in March.
Taggart and Gilbertson are more than capable of coaching QBs until we hire a full time staffer to take over.

Agreed with Ducked, The additional opening for an assistant coach should be approved by Spring time. During the winter term Gilbertson and Taggart can definitely handle the QB's.DuckedOut wrote:Seems like we will, but adding a ST coordinator was much more important at this time.Phenom wrote:It's also kind of hard without a QB coach. Re: Current Commits, Positions & Targets
Update: Gatewood reached out yesterday. Very polite young man. We'll see if there's any serious interest, considering we've never landed a QB that highly ranked and he's committed to Auburn.GoDucksTroll wrote:mrpd21 wrote:They just offered another 2018 QB, Auburn commit Joey Gatewood. I'm a bit concerned with the new staffs Florida-centric approach, but if Cristobal is the Florida recruiting master he's been made out to be I'd love to see us take a serious run at a guy like Gatewood. Maybe Auburn implodes this year, or they get in his ear to take a visit and he loves the place.

I hate to do this, but can anyone share who 247 was talking about on "Important update with recruit" that has like 90 upvotes? I understand respecting their paywell and not sharing though.

Just talks about a commit who has been committed for a while is still solid.Ducks10 wrote:I hate to do this, but can anyone share who 247 was talking about on "Important update with recruit" that has like 90 upvotes? I understand respecting their paywell and not sharing though.

We are kind of the open source version of recruiting boards. If you get the software reference.
