It's so absurd I have to start wondering if the staff is worried some of our commits won't qualify.
They've probably watched the WR we have, and realized not one of them are any good. Mitchell had 3 drops just last game, and he's supposed to be the best of the young guys.
that was pretty good catch Johnson made on the trick play and he's a freshman..we have some talent
but we do need help.

I love Johnson. He is a stud. Where we lack and I am really hopeful about these big, fast receivers coming in is in separation AND blocking. Our blocking on the edges has been only decent and can improve with these freshman.

If this class holds, and I believe it will, you're looking at something special in two years.

Mitchell, Johnny Johnson III, Schooler and Redd are pretty much all we have. Malik Lovett has stone hands. Alex Ofodile has done even less. Darrian McNeal has seen his playing time decrease. Demetri Burch and Daewood Davis have potential, but they'll have uphill battles for playing time.

As it is at the moment, I think the WR depth chart would be something like:

WR1: Mitchell. (Warren Thompson)

WR2: Johnny Johnson, Brenden Schooler. (Miles Battle, Michael Ezeike)

Slot: Jaylon Redd. (Tre'Shaun Harrison, Braden Lenzy)

We need a lot of help at WR. Taking 2 or even 3 out of Williams, Hall, Cota, Waddle, Ezzard seems smart. Especially since Harrison, Lenzy and Ezeike can play other positions.

All these guys are so young (true freshmen and true sophomores) that they're going to be improving a ton. Some of the 'older' guys have had 3 WR coaches in the last year. It'll be great to see how much they grow if given some stability.

I love Johnny Johnson, he was my favourite recruit of the 2017 class. I don’t know why but I loved his film and the late MSU interest always bodes well.

I also agree we are young but the players that we are in the position to secure are game-breakers. I think apart from Isaah Crocker and maybe Chase Cota (just haven’t seen enough of him) that all the future WR’s are day one starters if they choose to come to Oregon. Mitchell will retain his spot and JJ3 will too, but outside of that I think spots are undoubtedly up for grabs. That’s why I’m more in favour of compromising a spot or two on the depth chart elsewhere. I am also not saying we have bad WR’s but rather the guys coming in are REALLY good.

How can they be day one starters when you just said 2 of the currents will keep their spot?

I agree about Johnny Johnson he is great. Lays out for everything makes very difficult catches. Is fearless as a true freshman. The others have been dissapointing

Any of these incoming recruits excel at special teams returns?

I think the receivers would have been better at this point if Herbert was
healthy all season. Cant improve if Burmeister isnt throwing to you in game
situations.

Tre'Shaun Harrison is going to be special.

247 thinks Oregon is in a great spot to get Hufanga and Williams.

Because WR is a rotational position, very few teams line up with 2 receivers and only 2 receivers. Anyone who takes a depth chart for WR at face value especially in conferences like the PAC12 and BIGXII is kidding themselves if they say the top 2 receivers are starters. That would completely ignore teams that line up in 4-5 receiver sets, like Oregon has done this season. Just because they don't go above players on a depth chart doesn't mean they're not a starter. College football isn't high school where players don't move and shift or rotate within a scheme. Is Jordan Scott or Austin Faoliu the starting NT on defence? I would say both are starters because they rotate. In this case, the term starter is just nominal. Another example would be teams running the triple option like GT. Their 1st back on the depth chart is the "starter" but they use 2 backs on the field most of the time, therefore the second back is also starting.

Also, day one starters have the ability to come in and play from day one, it doesn't mean that they will or that others can't beat them out. Warren Thompson has the ability to come in to unseat both Johnson and Mitchell, doesn't mean he will be he can.

How are we sitting with Thompson? Is he still solid, or do people still think he flips to FSU?
