Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. GoDucksTroll and I talked about him in another thread. His senior film, on its own, is very unimpressive (athleticism, hands, and routes).
Hard to think there is no connection there.
Not really. The coaching staff at Hawkins got fired after a CA Interscholastic Federation investigation of potential recruiting and eligibility issues, mainly due to reports from other local schools who didn't like Hawkins getting really good so fast after the charter school was created in 2012. That investigation found nothing because most of the kids who went to the school actually lived near the school and were eligible to go there but the Los Angeles School District felt otherwise and fired them anyways.

Handsome Dan- transferring shouldn't make you slower, and it shouldn't turn hand catches into arm catches. If it somehow does, I'm not sure what that says about the player.

Again, hoping for the best. I was really high on Hall two years ago.

I don't think he necessarily got slower he just seems very hesitant. Like he's not comfortable in the offense.

Also notice how the Poly offense never puts him in space which is where he did most of his damage in his junior year.

His route running seemed to deteriorate his senior year. They ran a ton of quick slants and WR screens for him his junior year and his burst and effort were really good. It almost seemed as though he was lackadaisical his SR year but he's got potential. I think he will probably redshirt but that the Jeff Maehl comparison may seem fair by his jr and senior year here.

So why did he transfer? So far this story seems to support what I was saying. I'd certainly lack motivation if I had to transfer after the coaches I liked got fired under questionable circumstances.

We should find out pretty quick what kind of player he is or isn’t given the current depth chart at WR. From the sounds of it, his recruiting did start to tail off towards the end which probably has to do with what STU and others are talking about but at some point, he was a hot commodity, wanted by every school out there.

I didn't think we would get Hall, even when Slick Willie was getting WRs by the boatload. This recruitment just screamed USC.

Hall's recruiting slowing down definitely played out in our favor. He's still a top-end, rare type of talent. The steep drop from elite 5-star to where he is now is justified, given how much worse Hall played as a senior.

You can't make guys more athletic or make them 6'4" - the other things can be taught, motivation and discipline can be instilled.

No matter who else we get this recruiting cycle at WR Hall should have a chance to get some PT. We didn't have a legitimate red zone WR last year. Hall's specialty is getting that end zone, high point catch.

Receivers are all crap shoots anyway, so he's a good throw of the dice.

Unless he got injured he did not slow down. He didn't have breakaway speed as a junior either. He was more effective as a junior as his team better utilized his strengths. His success at Oregon will be based on the same. Will they cultivate and use what he does best? At WSU that would almost be a certainty, it's what Leach does with his receivers. Here we'll see, we don't really know yet.

Agree

All the targets have great potential but not all of them will pan out

It's good to get guys out of Long Beach Poly. That school has reliably produced DI football talent for decades. In fact, it has produced more NFL players than any other high school. As a recruit, having a guy at a target school who you played with a year or two ago can make the process a little easier.

According to QB11 and Jhop, his home life wasn't very good, and he moved out after his jr year. Money was very tight for the kid, and his nutrition took a big hit.

It's tough to be a HS kid with crap going on at home, then having to transfer and learn a new O, It's just amazing he overcame and still graduated. Im expecting he will return to form at UO. In his Jr film he reminds me a lot of DC, and I think he can be that good for UO.

Interesting that Michael Johnson said Hall is "excited for a fresh start" after his first practice with the Duck's. It appears something didn't go well at Poly.

He was bouncing around homes the past year and not eating or working out well, which may be why showing up here is a "fresh start."

That would explain a lot of the concerns about effort and performance his senior year. Despite those problems he graduated early. Wasn't he a 5 star as a junior? In a good atmosphere he could easily return to that level. Looking forward to great things from him.
