Drama queens can be ok if they have the right coaches. To use the local example, Chip Kelly was able to get the most out of a bunch of guys who were very rough around the edges and didn't have their heads on straight. He was great at managing egos. Helfrich inherited a lot of the same big ego guys and they became a distraction. Urban Meyer is another who has always been really impressive at keeping the eye on the prize for a lot of these guys who might otherwise put self above all else.

Bottom line is when hear the kid say it is their dream school and they don't follow through it results in the kids just looking like liars. Their words are empty.

I wouldn't be so harsh. I think it's more when they are little they love the uniforms, the duck and the whole Oregon flashy vibe...not to mention playing as them on NCAA Football video games. Then they grow older and when it comes time to pick a school it just doesn't make sense logistically or other.GoDucksIn09 wrote:Bottom line is when hear the kid say it is their dream school and they don't follow through it results in the kids just looking like liars. Jeez, that's really hard. My dream car is a Bentley Continental, but I own two Subarus. Things don't always work out.GoDucksIn09 wrote:Bottom line is when hear the kid say it is their dream school and they don't follow through it results in the kids just looking like liars. Their words are empty.
For everyone saying he's a prima donna, Tufono is a very nice and humble kid. He said Oregon was HIS CHILDHOOD FAVORITE, not his dream school. Considering he's a 17 year old Hawaiian kid he would have been 11 years old when Marcus started his first game for us, and when we were at the peak of our success. It makes sense that we were the childhood favorite for a bunch of kids in Hawaii.
Saying that something is your childhood favorite and winding up not getting doesn't make you a liar. A guy like Vae Malepeai who tells the coaching staff one thing and then secretly visits USC is a different case. But deciding before your senior year that out of the schools you visited (he visited Oregon on his dime and gave us a shot) and coaching staffs you met you want to focus on a group that doesn't include the university you liked in middle school is not a bad thing. It's a smart and adult choice to find the best fit.
Sorry for the rant. Let's not be one of those fan bases.

We are not recruiting Tufono hard. His stock is on the decline. Look how far he dropped in 247’s rankings.

Also the winning, the staff, the style of play. What they grew up dreaming about 5-10 years ago are not here anymore or different. It does suck to lose out on "dream school" recruits. Lets hope this staff stays mostly intacted and for the long run, starts winning, and instills its own identity and culture so the kids nowadays can dream about playing for Oregon again. And when they do become recruits, there will still be those traits of the UO program to help them actually sign with their dream school.mrpd21 wrote:I wouldn't be so harsh. The key words in the their statements always seem to be missed. “ Oregon WAS my dream school GROWING UP” to me that is different than if they said “Oregon IS my dream school” and then they didn’t pick us.alxtw wrote:Also the winning, the staff, the style of play. Even then, there are things that could keep them away. Distance from a close family member who is struggling with health issues or a girlfriend who can’t get into school both could stop a recruit from choosing Oregon. The recruit himself may not have the grades to get in or perhaps other recruits have committed first locking him out. Saying it’s my dream school doesn’t mean nothing will stand in the way of going to said school.brich75 wrote:The key words in the their statements always seem to be missed. “ Oregon WAS my dream school GROWING UP” to me that is different than if they said “Oregon IS my dream school” and then they didn’t pick us.alxtw wrote:Also the winning, the staff, the style of play. When I see ‘dream school’ come from a recruit, I just take it to mean he really likes the school.
