We needed Steele more, but Ford is so good he would be an instant difference maker.
wat. We had one of the absolute worst WR core's in FBS this season and are going to pretty much have to rely on and hope that a group of true freshman step up next year so we don't have the trainwreck we had this season. Ford is, unquestionably, someone we needed more and would have been way more essential.
We took 4 WRs in one cycle, for the sake of roster balance a top-50 CB is probably more valuable than a top-25 WR.
I'd take Ford, or Nacua, at the drop off a hat - but the staff is pursuing DBs with vigor because that's what we need with Blades and Criddell bailing.

With them only losing Mitchell and adding 4 FR WRs, there's depth at that position now. It'll be inexperienced/underdeveloped but it's still better than the depth at CB, where they currently only have 5 guaranteed scholarship CBs so far (Graham, Lenoir, McKinley, Hailassie, and Wright.)

The difference is we have competent coaching on defense. We desperately need a college ready receiver to come in and be able to contribute right away because he certainly isn't going to develop.
