It certainly seems as if they took two different types of QB to give themselves some flexibility when it comes to whoever the new OC is.

Nice to know and glad he's willing to consider that. We seem pretty stacked at QB now with Shough, Millen, Butterfield.buckmarkduck wrote:Jhop has said that Ashford has indicated that he would be willing to play WR, if QB doesn't work out.
I’ve wondered if we were gonna kick the tires on this. He’s good, or can be, we saw that last year. Grad transfers in conference can’t be blocked. I think the staff believes in Shough, but is also open to other ideas because winning... is winning, thomas time wrote:Source has confirmed to @247Sports that Stanford QB K.J. Wouldn’t think Stanford would allow him to come to the UO without penalty (is there really no penalty to transfer inner-conference?), and make him sit a year. With so many defections, they aren’t likely to be kind, especially to the conference champ. Not sure MC would even want him, or whomever is the next OC.GoDucksTroll wrote:I’ve wondered if we were gonna kick the tires on this. He’s good, or can be, we saw that last year. I'm all for a Vernon Adams level transfer, but Dakota Prukop round 2? No way. I see Costello being much closer to DP than VA...Just my 2 cents..StevensTechU wrote:Stanford would not be able to bloc Costello from transferring to an in-conference foe.
Starting in 2018, schools can't block transfers to certain other schools, though they can require them to sit a year. However, as a graduate transfer, the player is immediately eligible.
Costello is really interesting. He would provide one heck of a hedge against Shough and Millen not performing up to par.
That's a pretty harsh criticism given the Costello was 2nd team All Pac-12 as a sophomore.bigsugarduck wrote:I'm all for a Vernon Adams level transfer, but Dakota Prukop round 2? No way. Didn't he have Bryce Love in the backfield his sophomore year? The QB performs a lot better with a talent like that helping.StevensTechU wrote:That's a pretty harsh criticism given the Costello was 2nd team All Pac-12 as a sophomore.bigsugarduck wrote:I'm all for a Vernon Adams level transfer, but Dakota Prukop round 2? A bigger difference than Love was that he had a good offensive line, this year he was playing behind a couple true freshman and journey men reserves forced into action due to a rash of o-line injuries. Besides little time to throw he also had a sub-par wide receiving crew. He was also playing injured when he played because his line let him get the crap beat out of him from the beginning.maxduck wrote:Didn't he have Bryce Love in the backfield his sophomore year? He must be F'n Superman! Herbert was only All Pac-12 honorable mention. I mention it because it's an obviously flawed system, and we shouldn't use it as evidence of a player's ability. For all we know, the coaches were all in love with Stanford that year. Yes, I'm jaded.StevensTechU wrote:That's a pretty harsh criticism given the Costello was 2nd team All Pac-12 as a sophomore.bigsugarduck wrote:I'm all for a Vernon Adams level transfer, but Dakota Prukop round 2? A couple of corrections. He won the award in 2018 as a JR not Sophomore. He got the honor from the AP as well as the coaches.ncduck wrote:He must be F'n Superman! It was his RS-So year, but Stanford chooses to list players by their academic year.GrandpaDuck wrote: A couple of corrections. He won the award in 2018 as a JR not Sophomore. He got the honor from the AP as well as the coaches.
Love was on the team but had a very poor injury plagued final season. He should have gone pro his junior year. Costello's stats backed up his honor. 154.98 Passer rating, 65% completions and 3540 yards. Herbert that year, 144.65 / 59.4% / 3151 yards.
