Yea, LaMichael didn't spoil Oregon fans. Gary Campbell spoiled Oregon fans. One of the greatest position coaches in the history of college football.

Absolutely. The RB vision has noticeably been far inferior since Campbell wasn't brought back.StevensTechU wrote:Yea, LaMichael didn't spoil Oregon fans. Gary Campbell spoiled Oregon fans. One of the greatest position coaches in the history of college football.
Doesn't he still live in Eugene. Sure wish they'd bring him in as a consultant or extend their arm out to him as they have to ex-players to stop by for talks to the team.OregonFan4Life wrote:Absolutely. I heard him on a podcast (Scoopduck maybe?) and Campbell said he is very much enjoying retirement and goes golfing every other day. He had no desire to go back to coaching at all. He said he put his all in to it for 35 years and that was more than enough.alxtw wrote:Doesn't he still live in Eugene. I had a little chat with LaMike at his burger restaurant some months ago. He told me that Coach Campbell had moved to Arizona.alxtw wrote:Doesn't he still live in Eugene. But the teams you mention are all average and an average RB will do just fine for teams looking to be average... having a good RB is the difference in winning and losing vs. elite defenses. Our run game from Verdell was weak vs. Wisconsin and we wouldn't have won it unless Justin used his legs (Wisconsin probably not as prepared for it). Teams that have been successful in the past (Georgia/LSU/Alabama/Clemson/Ohio State) all have RB's in the NFL/going to the NFL. Might not be hard to find an average RB but a lot harder to land one who can put the team on his back. Last good RB recruit we had was Rolls Royce imo.buckmarkduck wrote:Nothing I'm going to say is a putdown of coach Campbell.
But I'm not worried about rb or RB recruiting. RB is probably the easiest spot to recruit and fill. When was the last time UW, Stanford, utah, even UA had a bad RB? Even WSU has had good ones. Cam was a legend, and a great coach, but if all the positions RB is the easiest to recruit and coach. Especially with the OL Mario is building. Our RB will have lanes like Emmitt Smith enjoyed.
Also, Mastro has shown to be a solid recruiter. He was the lead recruiter for 5* WR Franklin in fact.
