It's fair to say that he's run hard and might be doing better than last year. His numbers have a lot of variation. He's small and fast so when he's gone, he gone. Maybe it's just me but his numbers are just Oregon's season in a nutshell. Big plays here and there but a lack of consistency. I guess you could say he's a slower version of DAT. I've said it before but the offensive philosophy CMC has been using would benefit from a large back who can pound opponents into submission into the 4th quarter. Why bother building a beefy OL if there's no hammer behind it?

Vs. OSU: 8/6/6/1/4/15/26/4/1/5/14/2 [those were his yards each carry he got]
Vs. UCLA: 6/7/6/8/3/2/0/1/4
Vs. WSU: 4/-1 (fum)/6/24/21
Vs. Stanford: 2/6/14/10/6/40

There are some people who thought we could make it to the CFP this year. Dye might do ok in pac-12 play where the defenses aren't even that great but there's 0 chance he'll be able to put up numbers even close to that against better competition (which is what I'm assuming we're hoping to go up against in the future). Thing is we've been spoiled with a history of really good backs and I think the #2 back should be able to go up against much better competition and have the ability to put the team on his back - that's not Dye.

For perspective, here were his numbers against Auburn
3/13/-1/3/1/4

Honestly I'd be happy to be wrong and it'd be awesome if we can have an amazing RB stable that can take us on a run in 2021 or 2022. I just don't see it with the group of 3 we're currently playing.

For reference, CMC is carrying over some of his philosophies from Alabama. Prior to Jalen Hurts, Alabama didn't really have a great QB, but they did have large powerful backs and a large beefy OL -> unstoppable run game. That formula works. Haven't seen that formula work with a smaller back who can get taken down by arm tackles so there's my skepticism.

Agreed, maybe these young RB's just aren't good in which case big time whiffs from the coaching staff, and if that's the case how can we trust these guys to recruit RB's? I am fine with Verdell playing (Except the fact that he's injury prone) but I certainly feel with how good Oregon has been recruiting we should see better than Dye and CHL.

Ugh. That's hard for a RB. Marcus Lattimore is coaching at Lewis and Clark though so if he needs someone to talk to about staying mentally in it.

Interesting...he was some type of ambassador at South Carolina. I am surprised he left that position which probably overpaid him for what his role was.

I’m not very knowledgeable about fractures or any of that stuff, but what I read is that Lattimore had nerve damage so not worth speculating. I hate seeing any leg injuries, I broke my femur in a football game when I was 16. To this day seeing leg injuries, especially football ones, makes me queasy. Wishing Trey an easy recovery.

Not comparing the injuries because Lattimore also got hurt again after his initial recovery; just pointing out that a former college star is in the area who knows what its like to rehab a bad leg injury.

Also, on the Mentor/Life Coach position, former SC QB Conor Shaw is now in that role and its the same position that Lattimore has with the Pio's. I'd think they might also try him out as an Ast RB's coach too.

Cardwell doesn’t seem like he’s very enthusiastic about the offer:

He clarified that Oregon is somewhere between “realistic contender” and a program with “an outside shot because they came in late.”

“It’s 50-50,” he said. “I would say that if they are really interested and communicate that to me and show, on their end, that I’m their guy and it’s not for glitz and glamor, then (it’s possible). But if it’s, ‘We want you here so we can keep pushing the button,’ then we’ll see where we are at.”

Looking at 2022-2023 future depth charts/prospects, am I alone in being most concerned about the RB and CB spots?

Well, DL (almost always) as well (outside of those few very top recruiting programs like Alabama, Georgia, tOSU, everyone else has DL perpetually on there). Looking at 22/23 maybe DE a bit more than DT.

RB, CB, DE

I think we're in solid shape along the DL, but we don't have depth or talent at any of the DB spots.

I don’t think Benson has gotten in for even a special teams play, he hasn’t been listed in the participation report for any games.

Oregon is supposedly pushing hard for Cardwell. Would be a nice late addition.
