I checked out this Barnes kid earlier, and reached the same conclusion. He grew out of a safety into an LB. But he did start one game at safety this year, I’ve watched some Oklahoma and I’d call it a rover type position. Looks like Barnes had injuries, but was pretty good in 2018: 54 tackles, 1 INT, 3 PD, 95 yard two point conversion return to seal the game. Injuries since then?

Probably not fast enough at 230+ to play safety, but I can’t imagine him being worse than Happle if we have a roster spot available.

I will say that Oklahoma’s defense was much improved this year. Grinch has had enough time to get his system operational and they’re tackling now. Allowed 23.9 PPG this season, in comparison Washington was at 25.0, Cal at 26.5, and Oregon at 28.3. Last year Oklahoma was at 28.3 and Oregon at 17.5. Oklahoma’s run defense improved from 39th to 14th. The passing defense also improved by .5 yards per attempt. Okies are far from an elite defense but they have a better one than in recent years.

With the mess that was/is the UO QB room, likely no practical way to be QB transfer portal shopping back in mid-December; but, the Texas kid (Ja'Quinden Jackson: #73 nationally, #3 PRO) who spent the year rehabbing an ACL - and picked Utah - looks very much like a Moorhead style QB (see: Tommy Stevens, Jalen Maden, Garrett Shrader, etc.).

It will be interesting to see how he works out with Ludwig at Utah: 2 senior QBs who could return, a senior grad transfer from Baylor (Brewer), a Texas transfer from last year (Rising), a highly rated incoming true freshman (Costelli), and Jackson.

Looks like there could be a crowded QB room at Utah as well. Absolutely thrilled about Thompson, just thinking greedily. Very interesting to see what shakes out at QB, and what 2022 targets surface.

Zach Charbonnet another top-50 recruit was the 4th highest RB recruit, Kayvon’s high school teammate. At Michigan 850 yards and 12 TDs on 5.1 yards per carry. 6’1” 220 pounds.

Yeah, the scholarship crunch is really limiting our chances to add new guys. For TooToo we’d definitely make room because he is a proven commodity, the question is if we would if he’s involved in any recruiting shenanigans. Charbonnet is the heavy back everyone has wanted, but has also had injury concerns.

Zach Charbonnet highlights--he had some good runs versus Alabama. Big and athletic. Any indication if he's interested in Oregon?

Henry To'oto is a dude. He is a take in a heartbeat.

I think UW and Bama were his other top schools last time around though.
