Well if he only cares about football and not money he’ll go to TAMU like Jimbo said!
In all seriousness it’s very unlikely Oregon gets the KT level players, Oregon and the Pac-12 can’t compete with SEC NIL money. I never thought I’d see the day I lose interest in college football but it may be happening right now.

Not sure you can say SEC NIL money will be superior, at this point. While the fandom in the SEC is certainly greater, the pool of money in some of the largest cities of the PAC (LA, SF, Seattle, Phoenix, Denver) is far greater west. Things will shake out in time. If things continue to move as they are (see Tennessee and the $8M), it may not be long before we see heavy hitting companies in the west tip the scales. It is a feeling out period. If that Tennessee deal proves ridiculous, everyone will reconsider the worth and gamble. It is fiscally smart to sit back for now, and evaluate.

Not sure I agree, but to your point it will be interesting to see how is shakes out. I actually think the exact opposite will happen unless some rules get put in place very quickly around NIL deals. I believe that if you sit on the sidelines right now, you are going to get left behind quickly.Everythingsducky wrote:Not sure you can say SEC NIL money will be superior, at this point. I think that teams in the BIG and SEC that have been highly successful and have very deep pockets from media rights deals will start to pull away from the other schools due to their ability to pay for and retain athletes. Combine that with the love for football by fans and boosters in the midwest and southeast and eventually in about 5 years, you will see a top-level conference split off from the rest of college football with about 30 teams. I just don't see the wealthy west coasters pumping money into college football at the same rate as midwest and southeast boosters, especially in a conference that is already on the edge of becoming a mid-major.
Teams like tOSU, Michigan, Texas, OU, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame, Florida among others in the SEC and BIG are going to outspend everyone else by miles. I think USC will end up in this group because of their history, their ability to spend money on par with those teams, and their leverage with future media rights deals. I just don't see any other teams in the Pac that have a legit shot to be included in that group right now.
Oregon maybe has an outside shot to be included, but it will probably require Phil doubling-down on his investment in the Oregon football program starting right now. It is going to require that Oregon stop losing top recruits to middle of the road SEC like Tennessee and Ole Miss over money, which is what we are seeing with both recent 5* QB recruits.

Re: Interesting Development: Lebbeus Overton
I keep seeing people say “the NCAA needs to put rules around NIL deals”, the issue isn’t the lack of rules, the issue is there actually are rules and SEC teams are breaking them in broad daylight and the NCAA is doing nothing about it. What’s the point of a rule if the NCAA won’t enforce it? That’s why this is gonna ruin football, because rules are not being enforced.
Tennessee is a prime example, there is a rule right there in the NCAA rule book stating NIL deals MUST NOT be quid pro quo, meaning that it cannot be an exchange, an NIL deal must only be related to name, image, and likeness and must not be related to performance and what school the student plays for/commits to. With Nico, does anyone want to think that $8,000,000 was not contingent upon him playing football for Tennessee? If you you think it wasn’t you are a delusional Tennessee fan. I can 100% guarantee that NIL deal was quid pro quo and a direct violation of NCAA rules, but will the NCAA even publicly address this or what’s happening at A&M or any other school? As long as they are in the SEC or named Ohio St probably not. That’s why I’m losing interest in college football, because the NCAA is a complete mess and a joke of an organization with no respect at all whatsoever, I guess the Pac-12 fits right in. I know the NCAA was bad before but at least they tried to play the oblivious card no matter how obvious it was, but now it’s literally in broad daylight and they don’t care.

The NCAA has zero power left. They lost everything when they put all their cards on the table to block this NIL stuff....and lost to the states / congress.
The top 30 or so schools hold all the power now. If the NCAA pushes back or tried to penalize the upper tier teams for violations, they are just going to walk away and start their own league.....which is going to happen eventually anyways.

Is it? Where can I find whom is funding these NIL deals? There must be a public listing, right?Oregon Ownage wrote:Nothing has changed it is just public now, calm downrockthief wrote:It has changed drastically and I barely recognize it.lukeyrid13 wrote:Greed will eventually be the undoing of college football.

Re: Interesting Development: Lebbeus Overton
Eh, sure it was shady before but with it being public now it lets the football junkies in the SEC pay $8,000,000 to a high school kid without anyone thinking twice about it. Granted I guarantee it was still an NCAA violation but much easier to pay someone $8,000,000 in public than behind closed doors.Oregon Ownage wrote:Nothing has changed it is just public now, calm downrockthief wrote:It has changed drastically and I barely recognize it.lukeyrid13 wrote:Greed will eventually be the undoing of college football.
As for the end of the NCAA, the SEC has been talking about starting their own league, and I really don’t think it’d be as successful as they think it would be.
