He was not a luxury and would have become RB1 the moment he stepped on the field here.

At least there's always the transfer portal in the future but he's going to be a great one so I doubt he hits it.

He's a luxury in the sense that not getting him doesn't mean they have to alter their recruiting plans or take a hard look at their future depth chart. They can likely now use his scholarship to take an extra OL, DL, edge rusher, or ILB.

He wasn’t planning on committing today was he? When a top recruit suddenly commits out of nowhere it reeks of a large NIL deal, like Nico with Tennessee.

No one really knew when he was committing except that it'd likely be before his SR season.

But it’s ok for Bama, poor Saban and Bama have been victims of the lack of parody as a result of NIL deals, so it’s ok for Bama to overpay to level the playing field.

Saban and Fisher should wear clown suits every time talk about NIL deals, those tools belong in the SEC.

We have the most affluent booster in college sports, go blame him if it was only about $.

^ For better or worse, that is the current landscape of college football.

Bama and the SEC guys benefit that their fans who own: car dealerships, restaurant chains etc all want to contribute in any way that they can to the team's success. If Uncle Phil wrote us a blank check to sign the #1 class each year we would gladly take it. We just don't have boosters that want to contribute in the same fashion that teams like Bama and aTm do.

Phil could literally outspend them all and not even bat an eye at what it does to his total wealth.

I don't think people really grasp just how much money he is worth relative to what the entire Alabama boosters are worth. Nick Saban is like the 3rd wealthiest person in the state whereas Phil is the 27th wealthiest person on the planet worth around 45B.

I would imagine Phil just isn’t that motivated to play the recruit bidding game. Phil has change the world money while the boosters at these SEC schools probably see recruiting as the best way to buy themselves status and bragging rights within their circles. Meanwhile Phil is the guy the rest of the boosters are vying to get a seat next to.
