I really wouldn't worry about it. He just wants to face a higher level of competition for his SR season.

Yes but Phil is the only one who can spend the net worth of most of those boosters and it literally has no effect on his wealth to any significant degree.

50M/year to someone worth over 45B is like paying a parking ticket. He's like the 27 wealthiest person in the world. If he wanted to tilt the playing field he absolutely could.

Everyone needs to start getting around to what the Transfer Portal has created for players. Yes its important to get a commitment and for a player to enroll, but this is also relationship building and coaches that finish 2nd to these commitments are likely to target these same players 2-3 years from now as well.

Also, John Ruiz and the $ being made off the UM Hospital are a serious influx of cash that the Canes are using for sports and NIL. They aren't being coy about the new world.

The more this is happening the closer I get to boycotting college football and I know I’m not the only one. If Dickey gets a fat NIL deal at Miami and goes there instead then what’s the fun when college football is just a bidding war for the best players? Money ruins everything, and it will most likely end up ruining college athletics. If we want to watch spoiled athletes who care more about money than winning then just watch the pros, they’re better anyways.

With all that said I hope he honors his commitment, he’s got star WR written all over him.

Spoiled kids. Spoiled coaches. Not sure when the sport was 'pure.' I think, for years, we've convinced ourselves that kids go to our school for the love of it rather than more objective factors (like money), and this is taking those warm fuzzies away from us.

That dose of reality said, it does* seem to ruin the fan experience a bit. I find myself tuning out. This is probably the least I've followed (and least I've posted) in many offseasons, and the transfer portal/free agency is one of the bigger factors for me. There are a couple others but it's certainly a driver.

Too lazy to try to find it, but saw a clip of an interview from Canesinsider with him. To summarize, they asked if he came to visit, and he said he stopped by really quickly to say hello. Next question was whether he was seriously considering Miami and he responded, “not really.” Take from it what you will, but he’s been insistent this is just a family vacation and wasn’t for the purpose of visiting Miami.

I agree, it hasn’t been pure since probably the 30’s. I guess for me before NIL it was an acceptable level of cheating and bribing going on, at least there was some love for the universities and fans, but now it feels like it’s just turning into a pro league with no salary cap and the highest spenders get the best players. At this rate it’s going to feel like what’s the point of watching college football when there’s even less parody than there already is?
